Drop a man in the ocean and,,,

...tell him you'll be back in 2 hours. He may be able to tread water until you fish him out again. Drop a man in the water and just leave without telling him you'll be back, and he'll drown in 15 minutes.

THis is paraphrasing what Royce said in an interview I read. He's referring to time limits and why it's his preference to fight with no limits. He feels that it's a more psychologically punishing fight than 3 15 min rounds.

What do you think? Is Royce's analogy ship shape or a floater?

Was this comment made after the Hughes fight?

That actually makes a lot of sense. When I go for a run, I set a distance limit and it's easier psychologically to reach that limit. I'll get tired and want to stop, but I can say "I only have x amount of meters/laps left, I'm going to push it and then I can stop". But doing something draining (like fighting or running or whatever), with no limit, is completely different. At some point, you "drown".
