Do Pride Production values need to improve to get US market penetration???

Ignoring the debate about the quality of fighters in UFC vs Pride...

the production values on Pride have always bothered me. It looks like they are fighting under cheap flourescent lights, and there never seemed to be enough instant replays

Overall, it makes a pride event look kind of amateurish against UFC...again, not talking about fighters, just the picture quality, use of graphics, sound, etc

Do you think this will be a disadvantage to them as they try to get more into the US market? Hardcore fans probably won't care, but Pride already has the hardcore fans...they're trying to get more of the mainstream people to watch, and mainstream people seem to enjoy flash & glitz

Also, do you think this is a cultural difference mostly? There seem to be some distinct differences between Japanese TV & US TV, is this the reason for the difference in production values? From what I read, Pride has a lot more $$ than UFC, so it can't be something as simple as trying to save money is it? Or is that how they pay their fighters more, by cutting back on expenses in production quality?

thoughts?

If you actually went out and bought the DVD's, you'd realize that the production is pretty damn good. The entrances, the pre-fight interviews, the hype, camera work, etc... It's all pretty top notch. Those who think otherwise are probably only going by what they see on FSN. Go spend the few extra bucks and actually buy some Pride DVD's. It's a good investment.

the production values on the JPN PPVs are great! Maybe they need to make that team work double dutie.

I'm mainly going by what I've seen on the old PPV's

The UFC just seems to do a better job of making the "stuff that isn't fighting" exciting compared to pride

does the lighting look different on the DVD's?

also, I'm guessing there is more content on the DVD than what you see on the PPV?

I did always like the fact that pride PPV's seemed to have a lot less fluff in them, pretty much straight to the fighting, but I also haven't seen a pride PPV for 3+ years (I had a friend who was hacking satellite, so it was free to see them back then)

I think for the US shows Pride has gotta realize that bright lights and flashyness is popluar in America.
