Do Pride Production values need to improve to get US market penetration???
Ignoring the debate about the quality of fighters in UFC vs Pride...
the production values on Pride have always bothered me. It looks like they are fighting under cheap flourescent lights, and there never seemed to be enough instant replays
Overall, it makes a pride event look kind of amateurish against UFC...again, not talking about fighters, just the picture quality, use of graphics, sound, etc
Do you think this will be a disadvantage to them as they try to get more into the US market? Hardcore fans probably won't care, but Pride already has the hardcore fans...they're trying to get more of the mainstream people to watch, and mainstream people seem to enjoy flash & glitz
Also, do you think this is a cultural difference mostly? There seem to be some distinct differences between Japanese TV & US TV, is this the reason for the difference in production values? From what I read, Pride has a lot more $$ than UFC, so it can't be something as simple as trying to save money is it? Or is that how they pay their fighters more, by cutting back on expenses in production quality?
thoughts?
