Did Yves' career peak too soon?

At age 27, he was considered the uncrowned UFC LW champion. he beat the best they had to offer him. At age 29 he goes to pride and beats a game fighter in Mishima, then fights Joachim Hansen (ranked #2 or #3 in the world in most rankings) to a split decision. (more like a draw to me). But I think in that fight, something happened to Yves. You can tell something happens around round 2 and he is not fighting like he did before (no it is not gas tank related).

Regardless, he has now gone 1-2 in his last three fights, losing to two opponents who I am still not convinced are better fighters than Yves. At age 29, he is still young and already seems to be on his downslide. I hope he bounces back, but it just seems like his career peaked too soon. It's shocking to hear people say his career is coming to an end at just age 29.

I can't believe that, this legitimate thread, is being overlooked by a bunch of shitty threads that plague Sherdog.

I think that Yves still has lots of fight in him, he just maybe burned out and needs a break.

well i thought yves had won the first round against stevenson, but the cut even as experienced and tough as he is had to effect him. I do think that if he and stevenson fought 10 times yves would win 6or 7. Im rooting for them to give him a multifight contract because hes one of the most exciting guys to watch

agreed. TBH, the cage really fucked with him on that fight.

I think Yves may be mentally bored. I think he over looked Hominick and was over confident in the Stevenson fight as well and it has cost him. If you throw him in front of someone like a gomi he always steps it up a notch. If you let your guard down for one second in this game things can change real quick. I hope theyresign Yves as well.

Yves is a busy guy fighting here and Japan.
He'd do better in the UFC if he focused on the UFC.
I doubt that'll happen though.
He'll win his next fight.

Not peaked....

I do not think he is peaked, I think he just needs a breeak. This guy jump in the game and has been going hard since getting in it. He will fight anybody. If he takes a break from fighting in general, and takes time to focus on other things, he will give his mind and body a rest. This happens with people who are good in their respective crafts. Sometimes you do not get up for things that you may really love. Sometimes you get bored with it and a mental block comes up. Sometimes you start to operate off of the fumes rather than a full tank and every part of your life can be hindered if you do not step away. Even losing can not be enough to get you up for the task at hand. Stepping away for a while can be good.
