Demise od MMA

Frank Shamrock's gameplan: Terrible! I read an article awhile ago about how the sport is turning into ultimate boxing and that's exactly what it has become. Fighters are being pushed into standing fights only because that's what the promoters want because they feel the fans want to only see the knockouts. Bottom line, there is no way Cung should be champ right now. Shamrock who is the far more well rounded martial artist should have taken him down and submitted him fairly easily. However he stood with him, and Cung fucked him up because he is the better stand up fighter....weak. It's all about the cash.

I agree a bit. But guys like Anderson, who's pretty much the top in the eyes of the average fan, has done it all, and is showing that choking a guy out is just as sweet as knocking them out. Don't give up hope, grappling will always prosper, because smart guys will do what they need to do to win. Hell, Chuck Liddell went for a takedown in a very close fight, knowing it could definitely be the decision maker. Or maybe he thought he might get ktfo, I don't know. But don't worry fellas, grappling will ALWAYS play a part in MMA.

edit: Fuck that was some poor typing.

Nah, it's just Gary Shaw is a ***got and this is exactly what he wanted out of this fight. I wonder how he got it?? .....

Grappling is the shit, and people watch MMA specifically because of the fact that it can go to the ground. THERE IS A REASON noone has taken Cung Le down and it's not because he has awesome takedown defense. He's one of 3 fighters with moderate popularity in that organization, and all he impresses with is standup, so obviously since NOONE has like even TRIED to take him down that something fishy is going on. It's really pathetic and shameful.

Besides that fight would have been 10x better if Frank had taken him down to sway the fight, unleashed some devastating GnP attempted a submission that Le escapes from and ends up back on the feet!!! I mean cmon the ground game is exciting as hell, it's a whole other dimension.

I don't see this becoming an issue. Too many smart people in the fight game now and coaching fighters realize how crushing an outstanding ground game can be and will not let it die. Guys like Rampage, Davis, even Pulver at this stage in his game realized how important it was to have a good submission ground game.

I watched this fight with someone who is not really a fan of the sport and he kept saying how exiting it was and how boring grappling is. I've been a fan of this damn sport for 10+ years and if you really think ground fighting is boring find Carlos Newton Vs Kazushi Sakuraba back in the old days of pride. I'm pissed that Shamrock (on of the best submission fighters in the history of mma) wanted to stand up. To compare, I though Melendez's fight was way better because of the mixture of the two.

I agree with it being Gary Shaw's influence. This is the guythat wanted to stand the fighters up after 30 seconds.

He just wants a kickboxing with 4 ounce gloves. One big highlight reel. KInd of smart, but it's not MMA.

I found it strange that Frank was playing right into Cung LE's game.
The announcers loved it though???

Maybe one round prove to yourself that you can stand with him.....then next round come out and gnp the hell out of him.

If the UFC ever comes to the Mohegan Sun again, I will go to the event but I always tell my friends to be ready for the boos.

Hardcore MMA fans for life.......
