Cutting weight and gaining weight

First time posting on this forum, not sure if this would be the place to do it, but didnt see a section for nutrition or anything.

But i was wondering how fighters like riggs would cut so much weight the day before the fight, and gain like 10 lbs by the time they get in the ring? I know they lose a lot of water weight to begin with, but gaining it all back would be rediculous.

Genreally they follow a pretty restrictive diet that last week or two out from a competition. That generally gets rid of a lot of water, fecal matter, etc. Then they spend some serious time in the sauna(or jogging in plastic suits) and sweat out another ten pounds(sometimes more).

After the weigh ins, the pedialyte and fluids they drink goes straight into the system, and they'll often gain back ten pounds just from rehydrating. They start eating real food again, which is another few pounds. Which is why most fighters are at least ten pounds heavier in the cage than they were in the weigh ins.
