True, look at Fedor. He could easily lose to Arlovski because of scar tissue reopening. Nick Diaz recently had a plastic surgeon shave his bones and remove scar tissue so that he would not cut as easily.

Needless to say she was not amused.

Nick too?
I heard Marcus Davis had the same procedure. Sounds nasty, but no doubt helps.

Funniest post I think I've ever seen in my life... or not. It's definitely up there.

Thanks for the delightful message.
Now, on to the point.
Somebody said that a cut on the epidermis could be career threatening, to which I replied with a post suggesting that, as the epidermis covers the entire body except for the nails and lips, that any cut sustained would therefore be on the epidermis, therefore making the original comment somewhat questionable at best.
It's like saying that the worst fires would be with something highly flammable involved, without actually being specific.
Now you, in your infinite "wisdom", are suggesting that a cut on your entire epidermis would result in losing the entire outer layer of skin, after which all the organs would fall out?
Ha ha, and you have the cheek to call me a dumbass?
Hilarious!
For one thing, the epidermis is only the outer layer of skin, and secondly, how the hell is a fighter going to sustain a cut on their entire epidermis, as you suggest?

LMAO. The post you replied to was obviously sarcastic. How you misconstrued it is pretty amazing, actually. You deserve a full hand of yellows.

Why are some cuts on the face considered career ending? Some look tiny and you'll hear announcers say 'yeah it looks small but those are the possible career enders'. While you see other fighters get HUGE slices where you can see underlying muscle and bone and they are fine. I've heard everything from scar tissue, to nerve damage, to there is no such thing as a career ending cut. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

scar tissue...if you get cut espicially on a boney brow, it makes the chances for another cut much higher and in turn could hinder their career, i wouldnt say career ending though...Nick diaz had his brows shaved done i believe to help reduce the scar tissue in that area and help prevent another fight of his from being affected by a cut.

oh, fuck. ok the biggest organ in/on your body IS your skin (unless you count the alveoli's in your lung). clear fact. it is also the heaviest!
your skin has 3 layers: first the epidermis, then comes the dermis, then subcutis. the epidermis itself has another 5 layers, but i'll try to keep it easy.
in the dermis are the "roots" of yur hairs, sweat glands etc.
in the subcutis is where small blood vessels, fat ect are. nerve for the upper layers and stuff.
scar tissue does not stretch which means, if you get hit in that scar tissue it is more likely to break open. often doc's don't know how to treat "fighter cuts". they should be treated immediatly and you should get more stitches than the average person. if you rip a piece of paper als glue it together at 3 places it won't hold as good as if you glue it together at 12 places.
also, if bone is directly under the skin it is also more likely to open, BUT! the dermis (remember blood vessels) it not as supplied with blood as good and so cuts a easier time to heal.
now to alle the sherdoggers ready to bash. i'm a freaking paramedic and have a nursing dagree so please don't try to bash me and tell me that i don't know my shit, because i fucking do!!!!!!!
TS i hoped i anwered your question. in depends on the place of the cut. scar tissue around the eyes means it will open quciker, fight gets stopped quicker, fighter loses quicker.

Anything that severs the head from the neck is usually career ending.
