Could a promoter hide a fighters positive drug test from the public?

I was wondering if a promoter like UFc, KOTC, PRIDE ect could hide a positive drug test from the public. I know when Diego Sanchez got caught for marijuana it was not seen in the media for a long time. I ask this question because a freind of mine says that he thinks my favorite fighter was busted for roids and it was keep from the publics eyes. the fighter did have 9 month layoff between fights and it was said on the ufc web page that he was injured. And I truely belive he was. He is a very popular fighter and always has great conditioning.

So is it possibly to keep positive test in the dark?

The Diego incident is all you need to know.

It couldn't have been any lower on the radar to mention the suspension only after it is over. But it was for cannabis, so...

The promoters dont drug test the fighters, its left to the athletic comission and they would have no reason to hide anything. If the promoters did test the fighters i could potentially see them hiding the findings based on how popular the fighter is, or i could see them giving the fighter a longer time off to give his system time to clean out. But as far as i know the only testing is done by the athletic comissions.

If the state doesn't make the documents public then yes they could hide it. I am not aware of any states that don't make that news public record. In the case of fights happening in noncommissioned states and the promoter take responsibility for testing the answer again is yes the promoter/organization could cover up a results.
