Could Diaz retiring been a cover for the suspension he knew was coming?

perhaps he found out before the fight he would be tested and knew he would fail or somehow found out the testing was more rigorous and that however long he stopped smoking before the fight wasn't long enough. so maybe he just decided at that point to announce his retirement because he knew he would get suspended anyway but that way it would look like who cares since he wasn't planning to fight again anyway.

I think it played a big factor in his announcement.

He's also spoken about retiring even after wins, so the theory that he wouldn't have ''retired'' after a win is flimsy at best.

doesnt cover it but allows nick to reconstrue the events in a way that suits him. announces his retirement- he's in control, he's making the decision, he's done with the sport. lets him sleep at night as opposed to oh i got a 1 yr suspension cuz i screwed the pooch again.
