Combat Sambo = Amature MMA?

I just thought that it may be beneficial for the sport of MMA is sambo becomes somthing like an amature MMA league. Combat Sambo includes all reasonable striking techniques and all possible ground techniques. Practitioners of different martial arts can paritcipate in sambo. But what I like the most about C Sambo is that it is more of a sport than MMA as it is in UFC, PRIDE, etc. Fighters wear protection gear. A fight is more about showcasing your techniques and athleticicm than inflicting and enduring damage. What do you guys think?

unofficially ppl call it amature MMA, apart from all the protection gear its not much different to MMA. i think the main reason why they wear all the gear is because combat sambo considered is more like safe competitive sport rather than proffesional MMA

It is probably the closest sport to MMA, but it is not really armature MMA if Fedor and other professional fighters are competing.

I think in combat sambo if you knock an opponent down with a strike, they get a 10-count or the fight is over or something. So it's not exactly like MMA.

Which is good, I think. I still don't like the frequently seen picture of a fighter dropping another one unconsious on the floor and following it with a couple of punches/strikes to the head.

Safety means fighters will have longer careers and therefore will have more time to improve their skills during their career.

I'm talking more about a safer and more sport-like MMA league.

I think you can ground and pound in C. sambo.

Yep, that's what I'm talking about. You have the same kind of freedom in combat techniques, yet the gear and the rules make it safer.

That's why it is what it is, Sambo. It's not MMA.

What is the point of this thread? Do you think that MMA is unsafe without gear?

Do you think MMA isn't enough "like a sport" and should change?

A fight is not about showcasing your techniques and athleticism. You don't need two people to do that.

A fight is about making the other person quit, or putting them into a state in which they have no choice.

Why is this in the Heavyweights?
