i wouldnt say its the most important part, but if you are gonna be a mma fighter you better learn how to effectively fight from and in the clinch positions. I dont think you can pin it down to just one thing thats the most important aspect of mma. Hell striking is a must to learn, I mean if you cant strike nowadays you are at a big disadvantage. On the other hand, if you have no ground game such as wrestling or JJ you are also at a big disadvantage. You could also argue that haveing takedown defense would be important to have as well as the clinch positions. I think the most important aspect is to be as well rounded as possible so you will be ready for anything that should happen in the fight.

The first "M" in MMA stands for Mixed.

I'm glad you pointed that out, but watch any fight whether it be a pure stand up fight i.e boxing, muay thai etc or a pure ground fight, BJJ, wrestling etc

Theres one thing all arts have in common, thats a clinch, you find me a fight that goes longer than 1 round that doesn't have a clinch in it.

There is no single most important aspect in MMA. Common knowledge is that if a fighter is not well rounded, they are fucked.

With that said, I think that having a good clinch is very important because once a clinch is initiated, the fighter with the better clinch dictates if the fight stays standing or goes to the ground.

Thoughts??

You agree, or do you think there is another aspect that is more important than the clinch???
i think control is the most important aspect. whether it's distance your opponents body on the ground the pace of the fight center of the octagon thats the key the more of those you control the more likely you win..

I don't think it is the most important aspect so much as it is an underutilized aspect, or at least fewer fighters have a commanding understanding of its application. Its just another facet of the game that will sooner or later be incorporated into more fighters repertoires...in no way does that make it the most important aspect however.

Wrestling is something which I believe is the most important because you learn control!

So for arguments sake we'll say greco clinch but the thai clinch also deal with legs trips.

Which boxers are you talking about?

Name me these boxers.

You absolutely make no sense in the bolded statement. A top rank boxer firing off is punches with 4 ounce gloves would have a great chance of scoring a knock out.
