The sheer volume of utter shit that is talked on these boards at the moment is reaching apocolyptic levels. I only take exception to it because normally the views that appear from new fans and old help increase and change each individuals MMA knowledge but from reading threads over the last six months it strikes me that some new fans are being swept away by patriotic/xenophobic nut hugging and lack any context in their opinions or the ability to qualify them. All I know is MMA is getting bigger and going global thanks to both UFC and Pride, enjoy it, "Workers of the world unite".


So I here is a little of my take on the bullshit talked about Pride vs UFC, Wandy vs Chuck, Fedor vs Sylvia even Hughes vs Gomi, I leave it open for discussion so that a few people maybe enlighten me as to what I am missing.

P.S. I watch Pride, UFC, Shooto, Cage Rage and I have seen at least 2 episodes from each season of UFN and enjoyed them..........

Wandy vs Chuck is not about Pride vs UFC in any way shape or form. Pride's division is stacked and complicated at the moment. With many world class fighters all vying for the top spot. Chuck has proved beyond a doubt that he is someone who belongs in this group by fighting and beating a standard of opposition equivelant to that which Wandy has faced. Strangely this does not reflect the UFC division at the moment just the journey that Chuck has taken. Good arguments could be made for other LHW's to become the best in the world above both these guys but in terms of careers at LHW these two are at the top of the tree right now and it is the biggest fight in the world. They are reprosenting themselves not their divisions.

Fedor vs Sylvia is a joke, I like Tim and the way he keeps proving people wrong. I enjoyed the fact he beat AA in two very different fights but this guy has no right at all to que jump Nog if he wins the GP, Cro-cop deserves a rubber match or Barnett. The people who think Tim deserves a shot at Fedor and can knock him out are just the same as the people touting Hunt to do the same not so long ago. Tim is a great fighter but deserves no more praise than Karitanhov or Werdum or even Herring (who has been in with the top three guys) at the moment. To his fans I ask one thing, please let him earn it. Don't put the carrot before the stick, ask for someone top five and your bandwagon will gain immediate credibility. Those who say Fedor is overrated are sad and bitter, yes he may lose but the cream always rises to the top and he is the name up there and has been for some time.

Gomi vs Hughes??? Ok maybe I would like to see this fight but isn't it a little ridiculous?? I mean why are no people calling for Hughes vs Hendo/Bustamonte. Gomi is smaller and Hughes would have an advantage as he is a huge WW. The same goes for Gomi vs Yanamoto. The best fighter though will always be Gomi for me, why? Well Hughes is a great wrestler evolved into a well rounded fighter. Gomi is a great wrestler, fantastic striker evolved into a well rounded fighter. Hughes will always be great for one reason, Gomi two IMO.

As far as I know Silva vs Liddell has been in the makings for 3 years. Silva is going in there saying he represents Pride, just as Liddell went into PFC 3 years ago saying he represented UFC. If ever there would be a match that signified PRIDE vs UFC, THIS IS IT.

Also the only reason why anyone is bringing up Sylvia vs Fedor is because Tim has been spouting off about Fedor, calling him a little shit and what not. Tim Sylvia is the one thats comparing himself to Fedor, everyone else is just following his lead.

Gomi's Wrestling is no where close to great. Its his boxing skills that are great. Also this is the first time ive heard of Hughes vs Gomi. Doesnt Hughes out way Gomi by about 20 pounds???

I read a few threads on it this last month after the Wand Chuck fight was announced and it was in the poll on the front page of potential fights.

Oh and Gomi is a tremendous wrestler, it is what he built his Shooto career on the striking is something that just kept improving.........and improving making him exceptional

It's not though because of the reasons I mentioned, it's propaganda that has no substance for reasons I articulated.

People who believe in it, do so because they need an edge over and above Chuck vs Wand, which means in my opinion they are not intelligent, knowledgable MMA fans.

I'm sorry bro but saying Gomi is better than Hughes is just crazy. Marcus Aurelio showed that Gomi can't hang with everyone on the ground. Hughes would use Gomi's lacking ground game to defeat him.
