Chuck's Weak Chin

***READ OR DISAPPEAR***

I am kinda tired of Chuck/Silva threads myself, but I just can't stop thinking about the fight. I've been digging into my DVD collection and digital archives to watch all of their fights once again. Fightfinder has its place, but you can't quantify alot of things; you have to watch the fights again in their entirety. There are a few things that are blaringly obvious when you revisit all fights of the past in RE: to Chuck:

1. He's a badass; pure and simple
2. He's never faced a great striker; or even a natural striker*1*
3. He has a weaker chin*2*
4. He has great recovery time*3*
5. He has OK cardio*4*
6. He has 1 gameplan for every fight. If it works with his opponent--he wins *5*

In these explanations is where fightfinder is limited. It doesn't express the whole fight
*1* According to "fightfinder" Chuck has beaten Vitor Belfort and Alistair Overreem. Two great strikers. But that's not exactly what happened. The Vitor fight was another example of the flat Vitor (we all hate to see) barely showing up to fight at all. The Alistair fight--Chuck was getting outstruck in a one-sided beating (until...believe it or not but Alistair gassed out! LOL).

*2* I know I'm going to get flamed for this. It is true that Chuck has taken some great shots and not gone down from them. But he definately has a sweet spot. In both the Rampage fight and Mezgar fight; Chuck was knocked down by rather week shots.
Page fight--I watched the replay over and over and over again; verifying it was not a "slip" and determining what punch rocked Liddell. It was a jab that completely floored him (his eyes rolling and knocked down--leaving him dazed). In the Mezgar fight--Liddell gets floored by a glancing blow that doesn't even fully connect. I am not saying Chuck has a glass jaw--but its nothing special. Also don't forget--"Chin" degenerates with age!

*3* Definately not to the caliber of Silva (I only use Silva because he is the standard for "stun recovery time"), but Liddell has great recovery time or defense instincts at the least.

*4* Chuck Liddell has heart; alot of it. But he just doesn't have great cardio. What he does posses is killer instinct; something you can't train for. No matter how gased he is, if he hurts you--he will probably stop you. That is a great attribute.

*5* Liddell has entered every fight with same game plan--most of the time it works because he's faced wrestlers by and large.
Don't get taken down
Pick them apart on the outside
Save energy by counterstriking
Frustrate them
Catch them reaching and KO them

When this strategy doesn't work because he's getting outstruck (Couture I, Rampage) he won't/can't do anything else. I consider this his biggest flaw.

Note: This is in no way hating on Chuck. In fact the flaws I see in his game are not things he isn't good at...they are things he isn't great at.

So they won then? Did I miss something? BTW, don't make excuses for Vitor, for the love of Christ. He got beat, like he always does when he has faced someone in the top 10 in the last 4-5 years.

i c wut ur saying but speculation is only speculation, and it is not easy to speculate, the best thing is to watch the fight if it happens and then we will see.

Of course they didn't win. I'm not making excuses for them. You are missing the entire point.

Fightfinder is right in all these cases I've mentioned. But not everything is as black and white as win/loss.

Chuck def. Mezgar via KO rd.2--of course that's right, but its misleading. 2nd round KO. Chuck dominated!!! eh, not really. He almost got KTFO. Saved by the bell.

My point isn't making excuses for the guys Chuck has beaten. My point is simply--its important to know more than win/loss in analyzing a fight. This should be common sense, but its obviously beyond your grasp.

One thing that you must also remember when judging Chuck based on past performances, that he has become a better fighter in the last couple of years and his cardio has gotten better. I still think that Silva will win but, you should also consider those points.
