Chuck Liddell will not change his style or improve his game (LONG)
...and it's a damn shame. It took two beatdowns from Couture and Rampage for Chuck to make the little adjustments needed to improve his game and minimize the mistakes he was making with his current style of fighting.
It really bothers me that Chuck happens to think that "he just made a mistake and got caught". Now I dont know whether that means he thinks Rampage won by a lucky punch or whether he thinks that he doesn't need to change anything in his training to beat someone like Quinton and that he just "made a mistake" but....
Chuck got PWNED! Period. He got outclassed and that's the truth. The champ didn't even put up a fight. He had no answer for Quinton. Rampage was blocking everything he had and even knew what was going to come before it came. Chuck was really predictable in this fight and Rampage took advantage of it. Will he realize this? That's the question.
Chuck always had bad defence against strikers and had ALWAYS kept his hands low when fighting. Mezger caught him, Pele caught him, and it just took a much more powerful striker like Rampage to put him away.
I bet his camp is already telling him that Rampage either got lucky or that he just made a mistake, "it happens". Like I said before, it took two severe beatdowns for Chuck to change his training and improve.
Although I do believe that he can beat Shogun and Wanderlei with his current style, and without any changes, he will NEVER EVER beat Quinton however, because of QJ's superior boxing technique and Chuck's stubborn style of not testing out his opponent's weaknesses like the clinch. Chuck needs to know that he is a kickboxer first and foremost and not a boxer. Where were his devastating leg kicks?
He has so many tools but only chooses to use one and against everyone. As a Chuck fan, I'm glad he lost... sorry to say but he needs to check his ego. He deserves to lose like that.
Can't teach an old dog new tricks syndrome? Why does he improve only when he gets beaten the fuck up? and the changes are minor at best. He still can't go 5 rounds I bet. Did he believe in his own hype that his punches will take out Rampage? The guy took 16 knees the head before falling.
Somewhere far away Mayweather is having a really good laugh about this.
Thoughts?

Well...hard to say. He's said over and over again that if it works, why change it. His style has worked many times and will probably continue to keep working against a lot of opponents.
Does he have a weakness against Rampage? Yes, obviously so. If they rematch again, I think he would emphasize defense more.
But against everyone else, I kinda agree that he probably won't change that much. If he fights Silva, he'll probably show up with more footwork and he'll be more tentative and wait forever for a chance at a counterpunch.

he is done.
Top fighters are actually in the UFC now, Rampage, Shogun, soon Wandy, Nog etc. Sprawling and going for hay makers wont cut it anymore.

Chucks a one trick pony ... he doesnt have the athletism, time, or favourable matchups to regain himself.
Chucks chin myth got him where he is ... without the "Mark Hunt" syndrome, 38 year old sprawl and brawlers with low hands and queationable conditioning/lifestyles are on the fasttrack out of the spotlight.

Your lack of objectivity makes you completely dismissable. I suppose it's mere coincedence all the ufc guys you mentioned are ex pride guys.
Explain to me how Wandy is on top when he's lost his last 2 fights and Chuck's only lost one? Oh that's right basic math was never something pride fans we're good at (which explains why you people love mma math )

Saying he's done is a bit too much. I don't think his power suddenly disappeared. He'll still continue to have his way with grapplers/wrestlers. He'll always has a puncher's chance.
His stance sacrifices defense for offense. It invites people to rush him, so he can backpedal and throw looping counterpunches. That's his strategy.
For example, Wandy and Shogun are very aggressive strikers. Being very aggressive can easily win fights, but that kinda fits into Chuck's style. I give the edge to a healthy Wandy or Shogun, but Chuck has a fair chance.

Wand is still in the top five and so is Chuck...difference is Wand didn't lose to someone not even ranked top 10. Thanks to Jackson 2 minute KO...he's back in the mix.
