Not uncommon in Boxing, sadly. I thought it was an MMA fighter until I clicked the link, RIP.

Ditto. Its been MMA's ace in the hole for years that boxing has consistently claimed the lives of its athletes while MMA has only had one in Texas.
In all fairness to boxing though almost every sport has claimed the life of an athlete at some point, even tennis has a death.

well, boxing has about triple the number of fighters and bouts, and a majority of those deaths seem to be in some third world shithole. mma is largely a north american sport right now. but ive seen some gnarly local bouts on both sides, those are usually the worst

Sorry to hear this.
RIP champ.
Every sport carries risk. Boxing is riskier (to life) than MMA I would guess. But there are far riskier things to do with your time than boxing.
