Calgary = White Collar

Edmonton = Blue Collar

Toughest city per person average would probably be Fort McMurray or something, but Edmonton beats Calgary.

Those crying about fixes are just conspiracy nut jobs
looking for excuses when things don't go their way....

in regards to your conspiracy nut jobs claim. mma being fixed is not that unbelievable. it is supposedly overthrowing the place of boxing in many cultures (namely the US). judges making grossly erroneous decisions. etc. i sure do hope it's not fixed and currently i don't think it is, but i wouldn't be surprised if the credibility of matches is sacrificed in the future.

Has anyone who isn't insane actually claimed that the fight was fixed with any seriousness. I think it was a valid stoppage, but I grant that it's debatable. Saying that the fight was fixed based on that stoppage as evidence is outrageous.

Besides, when boxing matches are fixed, isn't usually a fighter getting paid to take a dive, not a referee being paid to unfairly call the match? That seems like an extremely unreliable way to try and influence the outcome of a fight. What if Shamrock had immediately KOd Tito in a flash knockout? Or what if Tito never had him in a position where ref stoppage was even an option?

I'm litterally LOLing at you dumbasses bitching about the article for claiming works... if you'd only take the 45 seconds to READ IT (I know, a huge stretch for some of you), you'd realize the guy is pointing to the disappointing results as evidence that the UFC is NOT FIXED! This website is a magnet for morons... even reading the thread title which explains this all is too hard for them.

and BTW I grew up and spent 25+ years in Calgary; it's not a tough town. Naturally though, if you go to the wrong places in ANY town they will be equally nasty.. Rio, Moscow, London, L.A., Vancouver, and yes Calgary too have people who'll slit your throat and cops that will look the other way. But get out of those few square blocks and you'll find the other 99% of Calgary quite the place to live. Tons of money to be made for a few smart people from the thousands of dumb people who think it's easy to get that money. The young people and immigrants ain't making squat; the old grey-haired bastards who seen this all before in the 80's are the ones making a killing.

Then again what the hell does the poverty-class imaginary toughness scale of Canadian street bums in a town have to do with the legitimacey and accuracy of a newspapaper article by professional journalists supporting a multi-million dollar US sports company like the UFC? Just another of the endless examples of idiots surfing the Sherdog forumns.... I'm not surprised that Dana banned anyone associated with Sherdog from his events, just based on these forumns alone.

Oh and to the last dumbass trying to pee on his keyboard in support of Edmonton over the rest of the country, you do realize they only make the papers because of Wayne Gretzky and their embarrassingly corrupt police force, don't you? Good night.

Haha, so according to the article the best news out of UFC 61 was "Dana White reconfirmed CANADIAN welterweight Georges St. Pierre will fight Matt Hughes for the title later in the year".

Nice objective journalism there, especially considering its a CANADIAN newspaper. Anyway, that was news that was already fucking confirmed! Definitely NOT bigger news than the Wanderlei Silva vs The Iceman announcement.

Not that I really even care to be honest since I will never read the Calgary Sun in my life. Its just funny the bias you find in mainstream media. The internet and blogs are actually more trustworthy newssources nowadays.

I thought this would be one of those bashing MMA and wanting it to be banned but it was a fair article, and the guy is right, 61 sucked. This guy is obviously a fan of the sport.

Umm It's a Canadian paper that is in the business of writing articles of interest to Canadians. Who the hell says papers can't have bias?
