Some of Wand's Vale Tudo fights were fucking brutal. In one of them, he totally opened up a HUGE gash on his own eye with a headbutt, but just kept headbutting the guy making it worse.

Nice post - point of interest: in the Tale of the Tape, back then Silva weighed 192 pounds. Imagine if weight classes had existed from the beginning and he had cut a few pounds and carried out his entire career as MW? Would have been a whole different legacy.

Another interesting thing from that event is that one guy tapped for no apparent reason. He had a standing guillotine and let it go then tapped. He was just standing pressed up against the ropes but still tapped for some reason. Anyone know why he tapped?

Meh, you are good. Bill aint the sharpest tool in the shed... . I remember first seeing UFC 1, was hooked after that.... These bring back some memories...

i dont know about that.. many of the earlier fighters were nothing more than just that.. fighters.. very little technique.. several overweight slobs... i think todays version is much more exciting.. and the knowledge of the fans makes it that much better... most old fans were no more than the avg. (formerly) wwf fans... not sayin all fighters and fans knew nothing but u cant compare it to the knowledge of today..
