Brad said that they should have known what his background knowledge and capacity was before they hired him. It sounds like Sherdog basically lured him away for a job he had had for many years, kept him for a short time and then fired him.
I think Sherdog should have made either:
1. More of an effort to make it work with Brad
2. Checked into his background and knowledge before hiring him
If you hire someone into a top post at Sherdog and then later fire them saying "he didn't know who the KOTC HW champion was" or "he didn't know what a gogoplata was", it tells me you really didn't know who you were hiring.
You are either hiring a person with extensive MMA background or not. If that person needed to have that knowledge for that position then it's not really Brad's fault it wasn't communicated to him or Sherdog couldn't figure that out.
There is more to running an MMA website than techniques. Writing and editing takes a lot of talent and patience. I don't think that would be too hard to figure out after talking to him for an afternoon where his skills were.
