what shots was he taking? how many can you say actually hit him? 3-4? out of what, 20? were his eyes rolling back, was he not saying he was ok? the same ref had no problem letting Kimbo take 20 elbows straight.

It's true...I mean you're getting hammered with punches from the mount and you're just covering up, I think the stoppage was fine. I mean he was just gonna get beat on for about another 15 seconds anyway.
Call me old school or whatever...but waiting the round out is not winning a fight. It's like the dude that gets triangled with 7-8 seconds left and survives the round...in terms of a fight, you just lost. I swear I know it's for the best, but sometimes I wish MMA didn't have round.

This isn't intelligent defense nor was it that brief. It went on for several seconds and the reason that people are complaining is most likely a combination of being sore at Dan Miragliotta for being a bad ref at EXC CBS and Vera's complaining afterwards influencing viewer perception.

what brandon vera was doing when he rolled to his side was trying to give up his back in order to create a scramble. To werdum's credit he stayed heavy and wouldn't let vera roll. Also werdum may have thrown a lot of punches, but they weren't power punches, they were speed punches. And for everything he threw, only four punches got through. brandon vera got hit with the mounted equivalent of four jabs. if there was a minute left in the round i don't know that brandon could have gotten out of it, but the reality is there was only 15 seconds left and vera hadn't taken any big punches. Both big john mccarthy and joe rogan agreed it was an early stoppage, and that should be the end of it. early stoppage from the king of early stoppages.

the opinion of mc carthy and rogan was that it was a bad stoppage, the same ref let kimbo get beat on for 30 seconds and mcarthy get hammered at by bisping for about 45 seconds yet wouldnt give vera 15 seconds, intelligently defending does not concern itself with technique it is a question of how aware the fighter is vera wa not at all hurt and it was mirgliottas duty to let it continue until vera was hurt, the decision was bad end of its not a question of who you like its a question of consistency the stoppage was bad vera would definitley have survived till the next round and then who knows how the fight would have panned out , i dont see dan being asked to referee by the ufc anytime soon

Perfectly legit stoppage.
He took 30+ clean shots? Or did he take almost all of those shots on his arms and hands? Did nothing to defend himself? You mean keeping his hands not only up but moving as well as moving his hips back and forth to move out of the way of shots etc. He didn't just turtle up and stay that way and not move at all, if he did that then nobody would be complaining (or at least they shouldn't be).
At the end of the day Dan made himself a target with that horrible job he did in the Kimbo fight and everything he does now is going to be magnified. Could that fight have been allowed to continue? Yes. Was Dan trying to do the right thing to protect the fighter? I think so. So really all of the nasty shit talking back and forth on this subject it pointless.

I agree, it seemed like a ligitimate stoppage to me.
Vera needs to stop eating ice cream and get down to LHW which would suit him better.
