Werdum was not landing his strikes and there was only 10 seconds to go. IMO Werdum had not earned this win until he landed 2 punches flush on Veras face. Could he have done that in the remaining 10 seconds we'll never know. Thanks ref, you took incompetence to a whole new level. It's time like this that i think back to PRIDE and how the refs would let the fights run to a definitive satisfying end. Thank god Dream is around is all i can say.

Anybody else notice how UFC was showing more doctors speaking in the ring? Was only bad decision i thought the rest of the night was great.
You're on drugs.,, seriously. It was a good stoppage.

I have but one thing to say: Hey "Truth", curling up in the foetal position isn't considered intelligently defending yourself.

You curled up in a ball and gave up like a little bitch, live with it.

i really thought that the fight was stopped early because Vera wasn't taking any big damage.

that being said, I can't call it a bad stoppage because he was just covering up and not trying to improve his position.

too bad the fight had to end that way. it takes away a clean victory from Werdum

It was a great stoppage. Look at Vera in the GIF forthose who didt watch the fight. He wasnt rolling over to improve position, he rolled to avoid taking shots. Look at his arms, they are crossed. It doesnt look like he going for a submission. Had it been another 10 or 15 seconds, he would have still been in the same position.

Lets face it. Maybe Mirgliotta does suck, but how about Vera really isnt that great at HW.

He beat Fabiano Scherner who never won a fight in the UFC.

He beat Justin Eilers whos 1-3? inthe UFC

He beat Frank Mir, who since he return was 1-1.

Doesnt matter if the punches land. Its all about defending intelligently. Covering up and turing away is not intelligently defending yourself. You can curl yourself in a ball and not take a shot and the fight will be stopped

This isn't intelligent defense nor was it that brief. It went on for several seconds and the reason that people are complaining is most likely a combination of being sore at Dan Miragliotta for being a bad ref at EXC CBS and Vera's complaining afterwards influencing viewer perception.

Karo did the same thing and it was blatantly obvious upon rewatching that that it looks more legit after each view and that his complaining was influencing fan perception.

It was bullshit. Dan should have been aware how much time was left in the round. With 18 seconds left there should have been no reason to stop that fight.

Maybe in a title fight. But when Vera turned to his side and showed no sign of trying to escape, the ref did the right thing. Had Vera stayed on his back and kept eye contact with Werdum or tired to throw at least 1 punch back, then it would have been a different.

some people have no idea about the rules, manely the ones complaining about this stoppage.

the fact that he was okay or that he wasnt injured or that he wasnt bleeding like a gunshot wound means absolutely nothing. the rules state that the referee can stop it if you are not intellegently defending urself.

last i checked blocking with no intention to get him off of you, look for a sub, or a sweep is not intellegent. for god sake he was flat most of the time very little hip movement. not to mention you have werdum, on of the best BJJ guys on you. vera was done.
