Body Size And MMA

I've been reading some things lately on such figures as Tim Sylvia, Sem Schilt, Bob Sapp and Hong Man Choi and their strengths and weaknesss's in mma and k1.

I keep reading stuff such as take away their size and they are nothing so most people dont regard them any good.

I think this is bullshit, even if they dont have the most technical game - its not easy being that big and it obviously has its disadvantages.

You cant take away someones wins because hes big.

I put this is UFC and Pride because of the Sylvia fight tonight.

Tim Sylvia, i personally hate the guy, but he's a typical tall lanky guy, awkward moving but seems to have worked it into MMA decently well, he's been the champ of UFC two times. Despite it being a fairly weak division he beat other decent competition. He's always got a chance because of his reach and it makes it exciting.

Sem Schilt, probably the the most up and down MMA fighter. His height was his biggest advantage and at the same time biggest disadvantage. Punishing jabs and kicks but so easily taken down and slow to get up when on his back. Yet he had some solid wins and took fedor to a decision without getting subbed or gnp too harshly. It was a matter of time before he went to K-1.

Bob Sapp i think is the one that gets the least respect because of his sheer size. He worked on his size though, thats not a natural gift of his. You can shout steroids, i dont care. He's in a place where its allowed. You can yell about all you want, i enjoy watching him fight. He's beaten some pretty good fighters and took it to Big Nog. Thats not an easy task for anyone.

Many thought he was just a joke because of his size but the guys got heart and even beat Schilt (the champ) recently (EVEN THOUGH HE FREAKIN LOST!). But nonetheless he has his strength in size but not in the latter rounds.

There are more that i cant think of, but it just pisses me off saying, he's only good because of his size.

Offen times its fighters hereditary gifts that make them the best they can be. some guys have a quickness that you cant learn. some guys have a mind for the tequnical game, and are submission prodogys I think of guys like Kid Yamamoto and Matt hughes with there strenght for there size. Big guys like Tim Sylvia If he did not celebrate like the frat boys off of revenge of the nerds every time he wins, or talks like hes the best ever, then he might be likeable. Everyone knows that the secret to his succsess is the fact that he can use his size and strenght well, hes very manufactured and i think he should be a lil more humble,

yeah i understand why people dont like sylvia, hell i could write and article on why i dont, but anyone who says he's a can or a below average fighter is out of their mind.

he gets no credit besides 'oh he's big' among true MMA fans

(casual fans think he's a god or smething)

He's a decent puncher whos probably a LITTLE smarter than he looks. He's nothing special but he can hang with a lot of people out there, regardless of the reasons why.

No one likes to see someone win by sheer size and strength. The smaller guys need some ability and plus everyone likes to see the underdog win.

When you watch the HMC fight and see how easily HMC took down Fedor with his patented "Hug and Timber" techniques, you realize its a huge advantage.
