BJ Penn?

Can anyone tell me why BJ Penn is considered to be ranked higher than GSP in the p4p rankings? And why Anderson Silva thinks BJ could be the best p4p fighter in the world? Like what would make him think that? Trust me, I know a lot about this sport but I never got that.

who cares about p4p rankings?

i think the only reason people care about p4p now is because there is no more pride vs ufc to debate over hwen it comes to divisional rankings.

the true champions like gsp and anderson are worried about who their facing next in the ufc. p4p rankings only mean something to guys like barnett and fedor who fight in farce organizations.

I don't think he should be higher than GSP. But there is a reason why he is so highly regarded and respected. Read this thread here if you haven't already.

To all newer fans - This is why BJ is so respected

Because he's one of the best fighters in the world and besides the loss to Jens Pulver 6 years ago he's only lost to 2 of the best welterweights in the world that outweighed him and to machida who was like 20-30 pounds heavier than hi,.

With BJ it's usually not really about record, it's about the ridiculous skills he has in all aspects of MMA. He has some of the best BJJ in MMA, great boxing, good TD defense, a granite chin, he has personality (love it or hate it), and he's willing to fight anyone at any weight.

He only has 1 decision loss in his natural weigh class, and he did really well against both GSP and Machida who were MUCH bigger and stronger than him.

Good striking and he seems to be improving with each fight

World Class BJJ

Exceptional takedown defense

Only a few losses and nearly all of those were at a higher weight class.

His skill set is amongst the best in the world, and his focus is finally where it needs to be. He is a dangerous fighter at both 155 and 171.

Thats about it.
