Big Nog beat the "best" Tim Sylvia.

I think the performance and game plan that Tim exhibited against Nog was probably his best performance as a UFC fighter. AND HE STILL GOT BEAT by an out-of-his-prime Nog. I think it's a testimony to how good Nog is. He is 85% of what he used to be.

I know it's already been analyzed to death, but it's worth repeating.

Tim mentioned going into the fight that he was the healthiest he'd been in a very long time. So no one can take that away from Nog. However, I do think Tim really got careless in that third round. It seemed he really thought he had it completely under control and just got sloppy. But that's that. Nog is a true champ and a class act. I certainly will not complain about having that man holding the strap.

I think it was Tim being tired actually that lead to Nog outworking him and getting the victory. Not that Tim's conditioning is suspect, I just think since he was throwing so many big punches and Nog being able to take alot of punishment Nog surprisingly was the fresher fighter in round 3.

Actually ya I remember him saying that his back was very screwed up against Randy, but that he was healthy again against both Vera and Nog.

Yea. He had two herniated discs going into the Randy fight (he may have had back problems for Monson too but don't remember). He had to have back surgery to repair them. He mentioned recently that both his elbows were really bad during the Arlovski fights.

He made a point going into the Nog fight to say that it was the first time in years that he had no serious injuries AND not even any little nagging injuries typical going into most fights. And it showed. Tim looked like a stud. Unfortunately, he lost.

Tim looked the best I have seen him in a long time. Nog just saw an opening in the 3rd round, and took it.

Sylvia earned respect in defeat. Judging by the pre-fight talk, Nog's biggest fans and Sylvia's biggest detractors had to have been shocked at how one-sided the standup in that fight was. It was a fight Sylvia probably should have won, but then again, you could have said the same thing about CC/Nog. Nog will do that, survive, and utilize his elite BJJ under pressure after having been through a war.

As far as Sylvia being at his 'best' -- I imagine he was at his best during his early UFC fights when he might have been on the juice. He did look sharper and quicker back then against Cabbage, Ricco and McGee. I'm sure he's further along now technically, but physically, he was superior then.
