Breakdown: Kenny Florian Vs Roger Huerta

Im sorry fellow Sherdoggers, I just dont buy into the Huerta hype. This guy is an amazing talent and has a very bright future but I compare his meteoric rise comparable to Diego Sanchez (althought Sanchez did beat some very impressive opponents.)

Kenny Florian gets flamed on sherdog. He isnt marketable, he isnt cool, but in my opinion he is the best talent out of the TUF shows after Griffin. I personally think Kenny has improved his game exponentially.

Roger Huerta: Widely thought of as the future of the LW division. Rock solid chin, great cardio and a willingness to brawl. Exciting fighter who recently made transitions to the Greg Jackson camp and training with GSP.

Strategy

Start hard and finish hard. Huerta seems to be a slow starter. He cannot afford to start late in this fight.

Roger Huerta's biggest advantage in this fight will be his athleticism. On the feet, Huerta will need to close the gap and fight in the pocket. If he stands too far KFLO will pepper him with leg kicks all night.

Huerta's wrestling is better then Florians. Penn uses his BJJ to get better position i hope Huerta uses his wrestling to get better positions on Kflo.

When this fight goes to the ground Huerta has to be on top. Kflo showed much poise with Lauzon and showed he can do damage on top.

Obvious to say, if Huerta gets stuck in Flo's guard those elbows are going to make Huerta in for a long long night. Huerta hopefully will work on passing the guard.

Engage Kflo in a brawl, everytime these two start brawling I have to give the advatange to Huerta with his speed, power and athleticism.

Huerta's submission defense has not really been tested. Leonard Garcia has good bjj but its not comparable to KFLO. Huerta has to be careful not to get caught during his takedowns.

Kill Kill Kill.. once Kenny gets hit he is great at backpedaling. If at any time Huerta hurts Florian he needs to go for the kill. I really dont think Florians chin has been tested, (but you have to credit Kflo for his head movement and such etc.etc.

Kenny Florian

A very underated and extremely good fighter. Probably have to compare his style to Machida. He is elusive and a very cerebrial fighter.

KFlo has to execute his gameplan against Huerta. Use his reach advantage, chop him down with leg kicks and catch him in the muy thai clinch. Kflo will be looking to chip away at Huerta.

Takedown defense. I was shocked at how easily Lauzon was able to takedown Kenny. Hoipefully KFLO has fixed this hole or at least improved it. If KFLO cant stop Huertas takedowns its not going to be good.

Work from his guard. I dont see Florian submitting Huerta off his back, however I do see KFLO doing tons of damage of his back on Huerta.

KFLO has not shown it recently however he needs to post up Huerta into the cage and shower him with elbows and punches.

Once KFLO gets Huerta on his back, he most improve his position. Huerta has given his back up before. Whether its full mounted or taking someones back KFLO has been able to finish fights.

Fight Predicition

Round 1

Huerta is going to try to time KFLO's punches and kicks. We going to see the first 2 minutes of both fighters feeling each other out. Huerta will shoot and Kenny will stuff the first attempt. Atfer being peppered by two kicks to the body, Huerta will succeed in taking down KFLO. Kflo will sweep and get into Huerta's half guard. After being peppered with numerous punches Huerta givfes up his back and stands up. Kflo ends with a leg kick and round over.

Round 2

Huerta comes out of the gates. Trying to engage KFLO. Kflo has none of it. Backing off numerous times. Kflo backs up into the cage and Huerta shoots. On top and in KFLO guard Huerta is hit with 8-9 KFLO elbows. Huerta tries to ground and pound however KFLO isa able to sweep once again. Huerta tries to stand however KFLO stuffs him into the cage and full mounts. Huerta survives the round.

Round 3

With a sense of urgency, Huerta comes out strong again. Trying to engage in a brawl, Huerta is caught by a knee from KFLO. After being hit KFLO takes Huerta down. Kflo continues to put on pressure and improves his position on Huerta until he fully mounts. Huerta survives the round.

Florian Unanimous Decision 30-27

Huerta has a better chin, better wrestling and more power in his punches. I njust dont think Huerta has the tools right now to beat Florian.

I think Huerta is too tough for KFLO to finish, but KFLO will win a unanimous decision.

I like Florian in this match. He has the cleaner, better technique in all areas and likely will not fall prey to Huerta's usual baiting into a slugfest. Florian is also one of the few (only?) LW's Roger will have ever faced who is taller than he is.

I have a suspicion we could get a stoppage due to Florian's elbows...they're pretty vicious. Other than that it's more than likely a decision.

interesting bro, i factored in the reach advanatge but kennys height is going to make a difference. Yeah KFLO is wayu to smart to get into a slugfest.
