The article first talks about bad decisions which, although should not take place, happens not just in PRIDE but in other organizations as well, including the UFC. So this part of the article should have never singled out PRIDE.
The sixth paragraph talks about how people thought of the TUF as a mere joke. The intent of the article was to accuse the PRIDE fans of taking the TUFer’s lighty but how can you say that it was only the PRIDE fans that thought this way? Many UFC fans trash talked TUF as well so you cannot single out PRIDE fans for this.
And as far as Shogun goes, I for one have always though of him as being overrated. How can Shogun be ranked above Wanderlei? The fact is, every MMA website had Shogun at the #1 spot so they are all guilty of irrationally overrating him. If anyone is to be blamed for overrating Shogun, the blame should never go to the fans; it should go directly to the MMA websites that held Shogun at that spot for who knows how long.
The article goes on to explain that since Gomi and Crocop were both defeated by UFC fighters, it concludes that PRIDE was overrated. Well, everyone from top to bottom has been saying that anything can happen in MMA, and if this logic is true, the recent defeat of Gomi and Crocop shouldn’t even be an issue. These upsets were taking place before the purchase of PRIDE by Zuffa to begin with. Crocop vs. Hunt was an upset that took place in PRIDE and so was Wanderlei vs. Henderson.
The article then, talks about the excuses for the PRIDE fighters losing the fight. Well, the bottom line is, the fighters themselves has never made any excuses for losing the fight. Sure, some fans made some crazy excuses for the fighters but any irrational excuses made by the fans should never be taken seriously. There are reasons why fighters lose and sometimes there reason for losing are legitimate.
The article mentioned squash matches. Welcome to Japan. You think PRIDE is the only organization to have ever incorporated a squash match? No. Look at FEG for example. Their K-1 and the HERO’S branch are guilty of this too. Majority of the Japanese fighters on their roster were cans but since the event takes place in Japan, in order to gain popularity, they had to include Japanese fighters in there. This doesn’t mean that the top competitions in PRIDE were cans or overrated.
This article in itself is prejudice to have attacked PRIDE the way it did from the start to the finish.
