Arguing about this is pointless, but I can't deny that it's fun. I do love arguing...

I reserve judgement until the "teething" of Pride fans to UFC has happened.

I think it is a mistake to fast-track Pride fighters to get shots at the various titles (accepting this is an easy way to tempt them to UFC), given a few lower grade fights and getting some pure bred UFC fans behind them would be a better.

I have always thought of Pride as being more about "Showmanship" rather than pitting the best against the top contender, GPs, Non-Title fights and freaksihly proportioned fighters (Bob Sapp, Giant Silva, Akebono) are designed to entertain the japanese audience where (talking from an outsiders point of view) american fans are almost solely interested in finding out who is the best.

I miss Pride as well...

The rampant steroid abuse

The fixed fights

The mob ties

There will never be another org like it.

Truthfully though I like many Pride fighters but the only thing worse than the poorly run and operated business they delivered is their pridehugging, biased fanbase.

I also said they fought a shitload of cans, WHICH IS TRUE. No one can deny this unless they live in Crazyworld.

The top fighters in Pride fought more cans than the top fighters in the UFC. It's as simple as that. That was my point with this particular subject. Doesn't mean Cro Cop, Fedor, or Wandy are "less" than the UFC fighters.
Ok then.... let me choose a few fighters at random. Cro-Cop seems to be your main target so that sounds good to me. Ill compare him to say... Couture and Arlovski (most beloved UFC HW's prolly)....

Lets look at a timeline of quality opponents faced ("cans" ommitted)...

Cro-Cop in Pride

v. Fujita in MMA debut.
v. Wandy 6 months later
v. Sakuraba 4 months later
v. Fujita 4 months later
v. Herring 6 months later
v. Vovchanchyn 2 months later
v. Nogueira 3 months later
v. Waterman 2 months later
v. Randleman 2 months later
v. Aleks 4 months later
v. Barnett 2 months later
v. Randleman 2 months later
v. Coleman 2 months later
v. Fedor 6 months later
v. Barnett 2 months later
v. Mark Hunt 2 months later
v. Yoshida 7 months later
v. Silva 2 months later
v. Barnett SAME NIGHT

Arlovski's UFC Career

v. Ricco 2 years after MMA debut
v. Rizzo 9 months later
v. Matyushenko 18 months later
v. Cabbage 7 months later
v. Sylvia 10 months later
v. Sylvia 14 months later
v. Sylvia 3 months later
v. Werdum 9 months later

Coutures UFC Career

v. Belfort 5 months after MMA debut
v. Inoue 12 months later
v. Horn 24 months later
v. Randleman 1 month later
v. Rizzo 6 months later
v. Rizzo 6 months later
v. Barnett 4 months later
v. Ricco 6 months later
v. Liddell 9 months later
v. Ortiz 3 months later
v. Belfort 5 months later
v. Belfort 7 months later
v. Liddell 8 months later
v. Liddell 10 months later
v. Sylvia 11 months later

Cro-Cop fought top competition MUCH more frequently than both Couture and Arlovski regardless of "cans" he fought. Also fought more and better competition with less rematches than Coutue and Arlovski.

Its hilarious how the author discredits Ricco's loss then says that no extraneous factors could have any effect on Shogun, Cro-Cop etc...

This excerpt says it all... (notice one of many typo's in the article)
"The legacies of Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures), "Cro Cop" and pending addition Wanderlei Silva (Pictures) were built in part on squash matches that made them look unstoppable. That's virtually unheard of in the Ultimate, where even unheralded opponents have the capability of flattening out anyone."

Sherdog, please stop this guy from writing front page articles... if it was just a thread it wouldn't even be a good one.

Please... Jake Rossen... go back to writing about comic books.

Seriously the main problem is rather the aging of some fighters that are becoming " past their prime " than UFC > Pride or Pride > UFC debate ...

That said it would have been interesting to see some UFC fighters perform under Pride's rules set to see if there is really an impact and if so , how deep it is .
I have to agree.

The article makes SOME good points but it's very biased. Where's the mention of Quinton Jackson destroying the UFC poster boy? (both in Pride and in the UFC)

I was just about to make that point. It's pretty poor journalism to bring up a fight as old and irrelevant as Ricco vs Nog when there are far more pertinent Pride vs UFC match ups that have taken place. Dana White had thousands bet on Chuck Liddell to win the MW Gp. In the end he couldn't even beat the runner up.
