Just watched Aoki Shinya vs Jason black. Black is no joke, but Aoki ate him and put him in "the best submission he has never been in"
Now that Pride has Aoki, the best japanese grappler and shooto world champ in his weight class, I'm expecting a very competitive grappling battle between Aoki and Masakazu Imanari aka ashikan jyuu dan (10th dan in leg locks).
It's not just a fantasy match up since Imanari fights for pride (he got KOed by hansen's knee, but he's real dangerous on the ground). The most impressive thing is that everybody knows how he's going to fight, but Hansen was the only one able to counter him clearly with a knee. I mean, his leg locks are like cro cop's LHK or pequeno's guillotine : You know it's coming, and you know you're gonna take it

also, imanari came out w/ Aoki during his pride entrance...soo if i were to guess, they won't be put up against each other anytime soon.

Shinya Aoki is 5'11 170lbs ( cutting to 160lbs ), Masakazu Imanari is 5'5 and putting on weight from 145lbs. Uhh, I don't think this would be a very compelling match. Especially since Shinya Aoki is such a Phenomenal grappler.

Imanari is a featherweight. Aoki is a lightweight who's moving down from welterweight. The size discrepancy is too big for it to ever be a viable fight, I think.

Imanari Is a Tar pit with his leg locks, however against better competitors, he has to be more dynamic, and he has shown that sometimes. With lightning quick leg locks like that he would be really scary in your guard! Leg submissions are offen suited for brawlers who plan to outlast someone elses heel hook achillies hold, however Fedor has a great aproch wher you go for a lock then plant your feet down instead of figure fouring your legs and leaving them out to be countered on. Imanrai probaly would get schooled by Aoki if they ever fought, too many cards in Aoki's favor

yeah, i think aoki would school him on the ground...the size difference would play a factor as previously mentioned as well.

Yes this is a fantasy matchup in fact. considering aoki is a champ at 167 lbs and imanari at 144. Do you realize the size difference?? Also Aoki trains with Imanari occasionally. Bad idea. reaks of someone who has just watched pride for 1 year and think's hes some sort of mma expert.

Imanari is SICK. I dont even know how he does some of his shit, and I consider myself a fairly intelligent person when it comes to submissions, what with leverage, angles, and momentum and whatnot.
