aoki can beat sherk?

don't get me wrong, I'm an aoki fan, but I don't see how he could beat sherk. the argument hinges on his ability to sub sherk off his back, and in my opinion I don't think he'll have the chance since sherk won't shoot in on him. sherk has better standup and has more power in his punches than aoki. I also don't see aoki shooting in and taking sherk down.

IF it goes to the ground, I don't see much happening. sherk is massive for the division, very strong, and very active in the guard, and I can't see aoki pulling off many subs from his back since sherk is constantly moving and will put pressure on aoki non-stop. not that he would pass guard, he would just remain in it, and possibly advance if aoki tries something unorthodox and gives up a bit of position.

but, like I said, I don't see this going to the ground just because sherk will control whether or not it goes there, and given aoki's bjj prowess, I think he's smart enough to keep it standing where he has a clear advantage.

he would have to sub Sherk, but somehow I don't think thats very likely. I don't see him taking sherk down, maybe from the clinch using his judo, but yeah I don't see it.

I don't see him subbing him, but maybe if he used superior transition he could win the UD. if he took Sean's back alot, or something along those lines. All in all thats very unlikely, and whats worse that dosent win you as much points as takedowns in the UFC.

my money would be on the shark.

There are probably only two fighters that can beat Sherk at LW and Aoki is one of them. His guard is ten times better than Franca's.

You are right about Sherk out striking him though. That is IF Sherk can keep it standing.

BJ on the other hand can beat Sherk standing so the fight will go to the ground where he will get subbed.

Im biased though.

Aoki has a very good chin. He can pull off a sub. That guy's a wizard on his back, too.

For the sake of the guy with the JoeSon avatar not responding to every single pro-Sherk post with "the rubber guard will beat him/you're wrong/Aoki will sub/Sherk lose", I'd ask that less of these threads be posted. Again: for our sake.

Aoki would sub Sherk.

Sherk can't try that lay n pray stuff with Aoki cause he's going to get subbed.

Aoki doesn't have to shoot in to take Sherk down. He can jump guard standing.

sherk's lay and pray isn't the average style since he's very active and puts a lot of pressure. he utilizes his superior strength and size well.

I could see aoki taking him down with judo in the clinch, but thats still a stretch.

and if aoki tried to jump guard, I think he'd just get slammed.

It could happen, but I could see Sherk winning this fight on the feet. His superior stand-up is the key, as Aoki could easily nullify Sherks ground game(and visa versa).

Anything is possible but Sherk is damn tough. It could be sherks toughest test. But I see Sherk winning a UD on this one. BJ/ SHERK is much more intrigueing to me, I am a mix of hardcore and casual fan though (example: never seen a Shooto show, but saw Frank kill Baroni)
