Good to know what's going on so I can follow this one. UFC should stop being so stingy and just pony up the cash, damn, not like they're having to pull these things together on shoestring budgets anymore.

Absolutely. It's a smart business practice for the UFC, though. As much as I love the UFC and the shows that they put on (ok, I wasn't satisfied with UFC 61), I know that, 7 times out of 10, they play to the average ignorant UFC fan. The fact that I refer to the majority of the UFC's fanbase as "ignorant" is not a potshot, nor is it opinion. It's fact. This was evidenced by the confusion displayed by the UFC audience after Anderson Silva defeated Chris Leben; a Spike TV poll confirms this. This is not a bad thing; at least these people were introduced to Anderson Silva, and at least they're willing to accept the fighters that they didn't see on The Ultimate Fighter. But it's
because these fans didn't know about Anderson Silva beforehand that the UFC can get away with letting the Duane Ludwigs slip away; it's a lack of demand.
But just when you think the UFC consistently overlooks the hardcore fan, they make terrific signings like Anderson Silva, Yushin Okami, and Martin Kampmann. That's why I said "7 times out of 10". For those three times, we are treated to something spectacular. Unfortunately, Duane Ludwig wasn't it this time. Maybe we'll see Ludwig back in the UFC someday. Right now, we can only follow his career through Strikeforce and K-1, even though I'd much rather follow it through the UFC.
