another sign MMA is taking over boxing...

The Contender ratings from the premier tuesday on espn:

1.1
between 18 and 24 they got a 1.3

this season of TUF
average
1.8
between 18 and 24 avg of 3.1

i love both shows pesonally, but i was surprised to see how horribly the contender did in the ratings on espn. you can argue that it is not a good show and thats why, but still it is coming from being on NBC. startling how much TUF killed it in the key demo for advertisers.

The Contender is a terrible show imo. Its WAY too cheesy and over-produced. The fact that they dont show the entire fight at the end but do this cut and paste garbage with this dramatic music is so lame. Looks almost as staged as boxing already is

I watch the contender for the fact that i watch most combat sports when they are on tv, and remember that TUF 2 was the lowset rated season of TUF so maybe the Contender can make a comback but i doubt it. It is definatly more "Story" than Boxing, but it is still better than reruns of " I Love Lucy"

It doesn't mean shit except that TUF is a better show. MMA will never be bigger than boxing.

No offence dude but your talking america. Countries like Mexico, parts of SE Asia, UK and loads of others have a very very small MMA following in comparison to there boxing. Also you do realise that any Oscar DLH PPV will triple any UFC ?

MMA is on the up but its nowhere near taking over boxing. TUF being a much better show than the cheesy contender is no yardstick.

Back to the drawingboard.

Wasteland actually. This is an overdone thread on an overdiscussed obvious subject.

If they'd just show the fights it'd be alright- especially the last two, they seemed pretty good, but you could never tell because they are chopped all to hell. I can barely watch what with the sound effects and all, but at least Stalone is gone...

Agreed. I hear that stupid theme song in my nightmares, but since I like nothing more than to watch 2 guys beat each other up I watch it anyway

You just made his point for him,

Oscar has got one or two more fights in him and then boxing ppv is dead as a fucking door nail.

Other than Maywether there is no exciting boxer out there and he has nobody to fight.
