Anderson Silva wants Roy Jones Jr.
Bout would be under boxing rules
Considered the best pound for pound MMA fighter in the world, Anderson Silva seems to have chosen a tough fight. It’s not a revenge match against Yushin Okami, a possible fight with Georges Saint-Pierre or moving up in weight to face Quinton Jackson but to fight under boxing rules none other than Roy Jones Jr.
The 38 year-old American who was considered the best pugilist in the 1990’s (by the Boxing Writers Association of America) held belts from several (7) organizations in four different weight groups (middle, super-middle, light heavy and heavy) and holds an impressive record of 52 wins (38 by knockout) and 4 losses.
Now the black belt who walked all over the UFC middleweight division has a record of 21 wins and 4 losses and is coming off 6 wins in a row in the American organization, with all by either submission or knockout. The Brazilian’s motivation for the bout is to show how good MMA fighters’ technique is, and dispel the myth that they are not good at any one style of fighting.
“Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match. It’s not just talk, we really want this fight to happen. We respect Jones’s abilities as a boxer and think he is one of the best… but we’re tired of hearing some boxers talk about how MMA fighters are not technical. Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones under boxing rules to prove MMA fighters are technical too,” said Ed Soares, The “Spider’s” manager, to MMAWeekly.com.
