All things considered equal....

...as long as no Japanese fighters are involved, Yuji Shamata is the finest referee around today. Its not even really close....I'd say Mario Yamasaki is a quite distant second with Yves Lavine and Herb Dean tying for an equally distant third.

Big John, Herb Dean and Yuji Shamata are the top 3 IMO, in no particular order.

I like BJM. He respects the fighters and the fighters respect him. He seems to always give someone the benefit of the douct when they are in trouble. Also, I can't remember the last early stoppage I didn't agree with... can say that about Dean.

Ohh...You lost your credibility there unfortunately.

99.9% of the guys on here would consider Big John to be the best ref in the sport. He is always totally fair and I've NEVER seen him screw up a fight. Why isn't he your #1????

BJM is responsibly for the worst ref screw-up in history - his stoppage of Conan/Sakuraba.

Is that fight the only time they did a "re-do" in MMA history?
