BJ lost to recently to Matt Hughes, and to GSP who took him down a few times but did little damage.

Those are probably two fights that's going to be hard to fix, and as a fan not overlook.

If he loses to Stevenson next, then really, he's no prodigy anymore, and he's stated that a while back that he wants a new nickname.

He better not gas against Stevenson, and dominate him like he did Pulver.

when BJ is in shape, he is unstoppable. Not saying he was out of shape when he fought Hughes a second time, nor will i make excuses for his broken rib, but Id be excited to see a rematch with GSP and Hughes if/when he beats Joe and Sherk.

in terms of penn being overrated, i still think he is, and i am not a huge fan, but i do respect his abilities.

i think the problem with penn, along with lack of desire to properly train, is his fans. no offense to teh clearly articulated TS and his thoughts, but far too many penn fans are fanatical-- akin to fedor fans or worse.

there is no denying the man is supremely talented, but too many fans cant accept the fact that he has lost, that he is fallible and/or that he is human. the nut huggers ruin it.

any who, thank you for an intelligent post on sherdog, thank you for stimulating debate and thanks for your efforts.

lastly, i would suggest that you offer a very romanticsed version of penn's storied career, that i would not consider realistic, no offence, and please dont think the above disingenuous based on this last sentiment.

Pretty much spot on by TS BJ is one of the best fighters period.The whole over/under rated thing is a tough one, as i feel alot of fighters fall into both catagories, a fighters fans(the nuthugging ones) can't see any fault in their boy, and the haters just have to find fault in everything they do.I could come up with a list of over 20+ fighters that fall into both the over and under rated catagory
