BJ is one of the most talented fighters in the world, but to rank him in the top 5 or even ten of any weight class right now is just wrong, he hasn't fought at 155 in years and is 1-2 at WW

There was a time about 3 years ago, after the Rodrigo Gracie fight, where Penn could have retired and would have been thought of as the best P4P fighter ever in MMA.
Dude, I dont' even think I've seen you on the board before, but you've been around like a cheap whore, and it shows

He's overrated when people act like he never legitimately lost a fight or if peoply imply that he lost bec. he brought it to himself and not bec. his opp. is better.

Excellent post to start this thread.

To me, BJ is one of the most frustrating fighters for all the reasons you pointed out. Early in his career, we all saw what could be with him. In nearly every fight of his, you'll see a flash of something really special. However, his poor conditioning has just killed him as of late. Not to sound too harsh, but it's hard to get behind somebody that doesn't work their ass off to be in good fight shape.

I watched the 2nd Uno fight again and I could see why the judges called it a draw. BJ was dominating then seemed to get bored halfway through and coast. If he would have kept working he undoubtedly would have won, but he gave it away when he quit trying to win the fight. I probably would have still given BJ the nod if I were a judge but it would have only been 3 rounds to 2. So I really don't see the draw as being a huge travesty. BJ definitely has the talent and skills to be the number 1 fighter at 155 and dominating that division for as long as he stays focused.

Great post!

Took me a while to get all the way to page 18. To the OP - it's funny how some people completely miss the point (as you said some probably would) and come in here trying to start shit. But I guess missing someone's point is easy to do over a forum where voice inflection is not carried through the words and people can misread and misinterprate things.

I have always been a fan of BJ's skill... but by no means am a BJ nuthugger. As someone previously stated sometimes BJ fans can drive me up the wall with excuses.

Anyways, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I almost forgot about that fight he had with Gomi.

As for all the "what have you done for me lately" people. I don't argue that he is currently the best. But BJ pretty much always puts on a good show and always has more than a decent chance to win. For those two reasons I still enjoy watching the guy.
