He is definitely a superstar.
And he IS the LW champion.
The unfortunate part is that BJ does not ACT like a champion, he does whatever he wants, fights maximum 2 times a year, and disrespects all other fighters by tying up belts and divisions while he searches for his "legend" status.
HES A GREAT FIGHTER,
hes NOT a great champion.
Champions defend titles, many MMA fighters and champions will tell you, just cause you win the belt doesnt mean your a champion, defending your belt makes you a champion.
Anderson Silva IS a champion.
GSP IS a champion.
Just because BJ got a BB in a short time, and won the mundials????

Im no GSP nuthugger, but I want BJ to stop pissing around, hes really destroying the rankings in 2 divisions and screwing ALOT of fighters out of their title shots.
And all just for his Ego.
Do you think that if BJ didnt "demand" this fight it would be happening???
We all know the answer to that is a resounding NO.

Spoken like a true hater and someone who has no clue of wtf their talking about. BJ fought 3 times in a 12 month period, from Jens, to Sherk. So you need to get your facts straight. Oh, and BTW, last time I checked, GSP and BJ have the same amount of title defenses...ONE!

You are on sherdog right now, so go and check some stats before speaking,
Sure he only defended once but hes 9-1 for the last 10
BJ is 7-3 for his last 10 fights.
And he does not fight 3 times a year, check your info my man.

Idiots...
You said GSP IS a champion because he defends his belt, but he's only defended it once, the SAME with BJ. So get damn clue before you post some bullshit. Oh, and here's your "stats" moron. 12 month period for BJ's 3 most recent fights.
Win Sean Sherk TKO (Knee and Punches) UFC 84 - Ill Will 5/24/2008 3 5:00
Win Joe Stevenson Submission (Rear Naked Choke) UFC 80 - Rapid Fire 1/19/2008 2 4:02
Win Jens Pulver Submission (Rear Naked Choke) UFC - Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale 6/23/2007 2 3:12

Apparently YOU'RE the moron, because you FAIL at math, and furthermore, you FAIL at knowing how many months are in a year.
12 months = 1 YEAR
The dates are in Fight Finder dumbass...
Between 6/07 and 5/08, BJ fought THREE times. 3 TIME IN ONE YEAR!

WOW
I guess ignorance is really bliss.
If thats how YOU calculate fights per year then i have no response to that.
BJ Penn has even said in interviews that he only fights maximum 2 times a year.
Please dont argue just for the sake of arguing.
