Lol, did you watch either of those fights? Especially the GSP fight. Welcome to the takedowns w/ no damage scoring system. GSP's face looked like he got hit by a truck yet bc he was able to tackle bj 5 times and get tied up...

Good thread...but I think most people say Penn is overrated as of late, not so much overall. The main issue I have is people putting him at 3rd overall at WW. He is 1-2 in the division. Other than that I agree with everything you said about BJ back in the day before he left the UFC after he fought Hughes the first time.

Well, it wasn't just that.
Bj gassed out, HARD, after dominating GSP, and GSP was too scared to do anything with it.
It was one fresh, beaten up fellow Vs On clean, gassed out fighter.

bj, is highly regarded becuase he always comes to fight, rarely has off nights and the only way to beat him is not by submission or tko... the only way bj can be put out is by a stronger wrestler just avoiding dmg/sub attempts from the top via gsp... i thought gsp won that fight..
not making excuses in the hughes fight but his rib seperated from the rest and collapsd on his lung giving him one lung to work with... do you think bj gassd from rolling with matt hughes for half a round...doubt it....
bj has a granite chin, strong hands that break noses and orbitals and his ground game is above all others... he is favord for any fight 185/155 imo

Ok, you can be a fan of his fighting skill, which is what I am too, but if you keep giving excuses for the guy whenever he losses you take it too far and it gets annoying.

EXACTLY! There is always an excuse when he loses. And his poor performances are ignored.
