BJ is overrated and this novel you have written does not change my mind. He has lost both his fights in the UFC upon his return and also struggled with an over the hill Renzo just prior.

GREAT post. Sherdog needs A LOT more posts like this thread. To be honest i didn't understand why penn was so respected, i could see that his skils were outta this world and that he beat Hughes, but you lose so much in retrospect.
You cannot fully grasp the enormity of an event unless you are there to witness and the culture that surrounds it. Fight finder is a good tool as a reminder, but a poor replacement for actual experience.

I appreciate the well thought out post that used recent anologies. I've been a legit fan for a few yrs now, and ive tried to do as much hw as i can, but there is no teaching experiencing a moment. DVD's cannot provide you with the Sherdog posts, or the predictions of the time.

his lost to gsp could've easily gone either way and prior to his rib break he was dominating hughes. Keep in mind that these r considered the 2 best WW of all time and they are both a weight class above BJ's natural weight. BTW the Renzo fight was 2 weight classes above BJ

I respect BJ as a fighter, but I can't stand him for a number of reasons

Reason #1: His fans.

Ok, you can be a fan of his fighting skill, which is what I am too, but if you keep giving excuses for the guy whenever he losses you take it too far and it gets annoying.

Saying "BJ would beat him if he actually trained properly" is the most annoying shit in the world.

Reason #2: His attitude

Post GSP fight interview:

Rogan: Give us your thoughts on the fight.

BJ: It looks like he lost. But you know the way the judging is.. you know?

I could give other examples too, but you get the idea.

you gotta love that shit man, hes a true fighter. wants to fight everyone regardless.

I'm a BJ fan cuz despite losing he made the 2 top WW look like noobs and he didnt even train seriously. Plus its 15lbs above his natural weight and both GSP and Hughes really goin fighting at around 180 which would then be 25lbs heavier than BJ's natural weight
