All aboard the Petz Bandwagon!

Alright, didn't see this yet, so I figure I'll get the ball rolling on it.

Petz absolutely DOMINATED the other night over Morgan. Now, Morgan isn't exactly the strongest fighter out there, but he's no complete slouch either. With Petz getting quite possibly THE most lopsided score ever in the UFC (30-23, no matter how controversial) despite being only a -125 or -150 favorite to win the fight, I find it hard to believe he won't be invited back soon.

Petz is a monster on his feet. He has some pretty darned good ground and takedown defense. His ground game leaves something to be desired, but he's still young. The guy has the heart of a warrior, and he's extremely humble to boot. He knows where he stands against some of these BJJ practitioners, and isn't afraid to stand up from their guard and bring them back into his world, which seems to be very uncommon among fighters these days. He makes them fight his fight, and wont wander into their guard swinging and giving himself up for an armbar.

I say give Petz another year or two, and he could be a VERY serious contender for the LW belt. I don't think he's anywhere near ready for a shot yet, but with some hard work, theres no reason he can't slug his way to the top of the division.

Anyone else with me on this one, or am I way off my rocker?

I was at the fights and you are correct, Petz' hands are extremely fast and powerful and we'll be seeing him again soon. Sammy was "out" 3 seperate times that I could tell and the only reason why the fight kept going is that Petz didn't seem to want to go to the ground to finish him and Herb Dean was erring on the side of murder, not wanting to stop another fight too early. Might be that Petz didn't want to get submitted or maybe he lacks that killer instinct. I was amazed that Sammy was able to maintain consciousness from all the shots he took. I'm looking forward to seeing Petz again and I hope Sammy gets another shot too.

i saw the fight, petz looked great on his feet but his ground game looked like shit. I know it was his 1st UFC fight, so maybe he got to excited or something. When he took sam down, he didn't even try to pass guard, and a number of times allowed a slow moving morgan to regain guard when Petz was in side control. He looks like an entertaining, Leben-esque fighter, his left hook was devastating over and over again

PS, no WAY that fight was 30-23. I scored it 30-26, 30-25 at most

Like I said, the score may have been controversial and wrong, but it's still the most onesided score I've ever seen.

And Petz ground game does suck. But that's why he usually stands from their guard, rather than try and stick with it. He knows where he stands on his ground game, and isnt afraid to admit it by just standing or never even going to their ground when they fall. It has nothing to do with killer instinct, and more to do with his wanting to play his game.

The guy also has some killer conditioning from the couple of fights I've seen. Give him time to really get a solid ground game, and he'll be on the fast track to the top.

Also, from what I've read (haven't actually seen the fight yet...I'm literally too broke to afford the two dollars for on demand), his not finishing Morgan after knocking him down was more his assuming the fight was over than his lack of killer instinct. Not wanting to literally KILL your opponent doesn't necessarily mean you don't have a killer instinct.

Here's a vid of his fight against Daniel Moraez at the Gracie Fight Fest.

Petz v Moraez @ GFF

If its a problem having that up, I apologize, and feel free to remove, or let me know and I'll do it myself.

Hyping Forrest Petz? That's funny. He's alright, but never will contend for a title in a big org.
