Fuck all the people that don't use their brains and actually can discuss a serious topic.

This is a topic that can't really be discussed over the internet because it's to deep, and I don't have all night. But I'll make a short version, and you can take from it what you want and leave the rest.

First you have to realize that we (humans) are "pack animals". If you look at any pack of animals in the wild there are always "leaders" or an "alpha". In todays society a person physicial abilities aren't nearly as important as their mental abilities. (you can thank the industial revolution and technology for that one) But people, especially males, still have a natural desire to be physicially dominate over their peers. Society deems fighting and physicial intemidation "wrong", so sports take the place of it. Sports are meant to find the most physicially gifted men (and women). It's the only real physicial compition that we as human have anymore. We no longer care who the best hunter or protector is......That is measured by how much money a person makes in the modern world.

That's were I believe the aggression comes in. When we are competing our natural instinct to be dominant over the other takes control. A thousand years ago we would fight or antimidate another person with a weapon or just the threat of violence. But that natural instinct, to antimidate, is still ingrained in our physce.

If we were at a public basketball court (with about 4 seperate courts) and a fight broke out everybody would stop playing basketball and watch the fight. It's compitition in it's purist form. Our raw animal instincts coming out.

Fighting is aggresion in it's rawest form.

Kinda sounds cheesy there, and it's written to simply, but that's my 2 cents.

Sports IS aggression channeled. Sports is about competition, which means proving who is the best, either by direct confrontation (ex: fight sports, team sports) or indirectly (ex: athletics).

Every society has built in some conflict between its members. Sports offers a smart way to channel that aggression in a codified and controlled environment. It is socially better to have people release that aggression in sports, and behave civilly otherwise.

My 2 cents.

Human nature. We're all animals and dominance in sports establishes people as the dominant males in the world. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

To compete to win you have to give it your maximum effort.

Maximum effort leads to aggression. If you're not aggressive, your opponent will be, and you most likely will lose whatever sports competition you are involved in.

Now if you're competing to lose, aggression has no place in sports.

Do you mean, if you don't use your brain, then you can discuss a serious topic? (sorry could not resist)

Look up Siggy Freud. He would probably argue that aggression manifests itself because of sexual frustrations (which may also explain why 90% of Sherdoggers are so irate all the time) In other words, violence and aggression would become phallic substitutes, according to Freud.

Hobbes would say that it's simply because human beings are motivated solely in terms of self-interest. But f*ck Hobbes.
