#1 Contenders fights should be 5 rounds

I think the UFC should talk to the nsac, csac or whoever deals with the rules and regulations of mma and make #1 contender matches 5 rounds....I think for certain fights there needs to be more rounds...3 rounds just doesn't seem to be enough for some fights...for strikers 3 rounds is ok, but for the grapplers, wrestlers, etc...3 rounds doesn't seem like enough time...

boxing has 12 rounds for all big fights, i think the UFC needs to adopt the same idea and make #1 contender fights, or even any big fight 5 rounds....i dun mind seeing decisions, but i think some fights need more time...

thoughts???

With all the decisions lately, I completely agree with you. I think a "decision" in a fight is just stupid anyway. You win a fight by beating your opponent, not because a group of observers decided that you get more "points". Is this fighting or figure skating?

I think they should be able to do it for marquee matchups too. It'd be cool if Silva Vs Liddell were a 5 rounder. Nog vs Herring 3 would have been a good candidate for a 5 rounder too.

I can understand the idea and reasoning but alot of #1 contender fights can be terrible so I wouldnt wanna see 5 rounds of boredom.

Good idea though

um i dont think so because what if they fight for a title shot and dont get the chance to fight for the title, such as when karo was suppose to fight hughes at 56 he never fought him and never fought for a title shot since, so a 5 round fight with serra would have been for no reason

No argument here. The sticking point to that is that UFC would have to commit to saying a fight was or was not definitely a #1 contender fight. They couldn't go around with their "this fight could have title implications" noncommittal nonsense.

Yes, it would require UFC to institute more in the way of regulations as far as disritbutions of title shots are concerned. Something UFC is reluctant to do as it limits their power to put together matchups on the fly.

It would not have been for no reason, it would have been a five round fight. What's wrong with that? What's worse a boring fight going five rounds or an amazing fight being cut short to a decision by round three?

There is so much parity among the top guys now that 15 minutes is simply not enough time to finish the business they have at hand. As guys become more well rounded, more and more fights are going to go to decisions until the UFC makes some changes. Especially since a wrestler has the perfect strategy of controlling a guy for 15 minutes without having to actually fight and get the win. A world class wrestler holding a guy down for 15 minutes is almost a cake walk for those guys. They do it all the time against other wrestlers as good as them, against a striker who has been studying the ground game for 3 years or less, how is he going to stop a wrestler who has been doing it for ten years or more for laying on him for 15 minutes? 15 minutes is NOT a lot of time for a fight that evolves a ground game.

i almost think that all pro fights should be 5 rounds. Although it would suck for those Timmeh v AA type fights that are unbearingly boring to watch.
