Sherdog Performance

Whats going on guys?

Performance on the forums has been crap lately, and quite frankly, has never been that great.

Please consider moving to some newer hardware. I know it's not a bandwidth problem. It's a database performance problem. Throw Memory and Hard Drive speed at the problem. PLEASE.

I'm having the same issues to. Sherdog is working at dial-up or worse speeds for the last few days for me. Literally takes 20 seconds after clicking a link for the page to come up.

Way to slow. I often have 5 or 6 threads open at a time and the speed is really killing me.

5 or 6 threads open at once?? Man, you're the one causing the problem!

the only mma forum i have frequented in the past couple years is sherdog, but on saturday when the servers went down I went some place else for the first time. If you notice, both the ufn threads and affliction threads have way less views than normal event threads of the past.

seriously, a simple announcement a day ahead of time would be appreciated, but no, we don't get nothing.

I'm checking Sherdog far less than I used to because the performance is so poor. It was bad enough with all the multiple post crap, but now it is pretty slow too - after down-time "for tweaking performance" no less.

Sorry guys. Believe it or not, this has been our attention for the last couple of weeks for both Sherdog.com and Sherdog.net. Here's what's happened:

We migrated Sherdog.com from a four-www servers (load balanced) + 1 db server to a five-www-servers (load balanced) + 1 db server + 1 search server PHP platform (all servers are dual quad-core xeons, scsi RAID (I think) 10 with 8 gigs ram, except the db servers which have 16 gigs). The site was muuuuuuuch faster than it was on the ASP, but unfortunately handled much poorer during heavy loads than the previous config. We have a team of database experts and scripting experts working on it full time.

We had noticed poor performance on Sherdog.net during the last few big events and had tweaked our config (five www servers and four db servers, all dual quad-core with SCSI raid and 8 or 16 gigs of ram) as best we could. So, we hired a db consultant to help us improve general performance and performance under load. We implemented his changes and unfortunately the site suffered (and is still suffering) bigtime. We have multiple people walking through every aspect of the site (apache config, db config, memory-eating scripts, etc.) and eliminating the possible reasons one-by-one. I wish we could add a server or toss in more memory and make the problems go away, but we can't.

We should continue to see improved performance during the rest of the day and this week.

Thanks for your patience. I'll update when we get some solid data showing we've helped the problems.
