Real life belts?
I remember reading somewhere that Sherdog will update your belt color to your actual earned MA belt? I cannot find the post now, but I am sure I read it a while back.
I ask because I am a third cue Brown Belt in Shotokan Karate, and it would be nice to have some recognition for it.
Any info would be great.

So just because you've spent a few years working and sweating and studying Shotokan Karate, you think you deserve a REAL belt, a sherdog.net belt? HA! HA HA!
But seriously, I don't see how that could be done practically. The checking and updating needed would be very time-consuming.

I got a 1st degree black belt in taekwondo when I was a kid, I really don't even think that that has helped me in life one bit. I've learned a lot more through watching mma than I did in the 5 years I was in taekwondo. Just a big money maker for the people who owned the gym, scaring parents into thinking their kid's going to get raped if he doesn't know how to break a board.
But anyways, belts outside of Sherdog are worthless, Sherdog belts are how you show your real experience.

Lofl, no offense Manson, but Shotokan karate is a WHOLE lot more practical than Taekwondo, which has pretty much been proven to be useless as a fighting art.
Shotokan karate is held in very high acclaim, and has actually been successfully brought into the "Octogan" by several high profile fighters such as Lyoto Machida. Now of course, MMA has *nothing* to do with real fighting, or how effective an art is, but if an art has no use in MMA, such as Taekwondo, it's telling for sure.

no offense taken, I know it was years and a lot of money wasted. My parents bought into the whole spill of I was going to get kidnapped or molested if I didn't take taekwondo.
but now I'm on sherdog and I have a belt that actually means something

Interesting.
Where exactly do you think Tae Kwon Do draws inspiration from?

Recognition incoming:
Grats!!!!
When it comes to training, the only one who truly gives a shit is yourself.
If you're hard-up about it though, just put it somewhere in your sig.

Tae Kwon Do = Shotokan. General Choi Hong Hi was a third or fourth degree bb in Shotokan ... though other styles contributed to TKD's development. Perhaps more accurate to say TKD = Karate.
