Lightening the mood vs trolling
Why aren't we allowed to throw in a little comedy in between all the fight discussion?
I posted a thread talking about how Kimbo is the top heavyweight, but anyone could see it was tongue in cheek -- I linked to a Google Trends chart showing Kimbo vs Richard Simmons, for crying out loud. The post was deleted.
I'm not saying I'm a comedic genius, or that it was guaranteed to be funny, or that genuine trolling should be allowed. But I think there should be some fun allowed in between the serious fight discussion.
Some threads involve dudes angrily arguing and exchanging insults for 20 pages, and that's considered fine, but joke threads aren't allowed. Can we please get a little leeway to have some fun in between the 'hardcore' fight threads?

i deleted the thread and it was pretty much a clear cut trolling thread in my mind. If you want to make threads like that there is always the Wasteland.

I don't understand how you can delete threads with some comedic thought put into them and allow 30 bullshit "diaz is...", "machida is..." and the "Dana is evil" threads to constantly flood the heavyweights. That is why I chose to only sparsely partake in conversation because the abundance of idiocy outshines the intelligent topics and responses.
At least with tongue in cheek/satiric threads some level of thought is required.

Two problems:
Not everyone understands that you're joking (consider that you have a global audience and that people in other countries have no idea who richard simmons is, or understand the context of your humor).
It takes up space that should be used for more serious discussion, which is why people visit that particular forum.
I know what you're saying, I'm a fan of funny stuff and always being serious gets tedious. But you have OT, wastelend, and mayberry if you feel the need for levity. It also can get problematic if we let you make those threads because then we have to start subjectively making a lot of distinctions between what's trolling and what's not. You'll have too many people starting to make unfunny and inappropriate threads and, well, it'll just be a big 'ol mess.

Guys -- I understand where you're coming from and I appreciate that you realize I'm not trying to troll anyone. I enjoy real fight discussions just as much as I enjoy joking around.
I guess what I'm trying to point out is there's a fine line between going for laughs and trolling, but you can get close to that line without going over it. True, some people might not know who Richard Simmons is, but I think other things like talking about the Tank Abbott fight and the "talent-rich UFC heavyweight division" gives it away pretty clearly that it's a joke.
I don't really think a joke thread every once in a while takes away from good discussions. Even as a huge Fedor fan, for instance, I can get tired easily with 5,000 Fedor threads, and I know I'm not the only one. Same thing with the endless P4P threads and such...and when those threads go dozens of pages with people arguing, that's when it's good to joke around.
Well...I'll try to keep any future threads well within the realm of jokes and make it clearer I'm not trolling, but thanks for replying.

Co-signed on this as well.
It seems like some stuff ("STFU noob u don't know anything about Machida" etc) is allowed to go on when it definitely causes more harm than any joke thread could. We have some good fight discussions on Sherdog, but we also have an abundance of stupidity and Internet e-peen flaunting.

I would just like to point out here that you posted last night in the Rampage vs Griffin thread, something like, "Anyone who thinks Rampage won is an idiot."
That was the grand total of your contribution in that post. So it's not surprising to me that you have poor judgment, when your posts are examples of some of the worst of this forum.
Maybe you should post in the Wasteland too, buddy.
