Why tape the rope?

Quick question for anyone who can answer. Why do people tape the rope right above the heavybag? Also, Why do they tape the bungee right below and right above the double end bag? I see this often, and I have wondered what the benefit is?

Particualrly with the double end bags, I have seen some with quite the thick layer of duck tape running from where the hook meets the bunjee on either side of the bag, running up to a foot or more sometimes along the bunjee cord.

Anybody?

I have seen the tops of heavy bags taped right below the d rings and its so the bag dont spin around......a double end bag the tape is so the bungee stays attached and dont come apart...we had to do this to the one we have since it kept slipping out and we have tied knots in the bungee to tighten it up more as it has gotten older......

i tape the hooks on my DE bag to for 2 reasons:

1. to keep the bag from twisting off of the hook and the bungee causing potential injury

2. to protect my hands/gloves if i glance off the bag and hit the hook. tore up one of my boxing gloves that way, and 6inches of tape saves tearing up some expensive gloves

I'd say this is right. I have been cut on my arms from the hooks that were not taped up.

That's great. Nice simple common sense explanations like I expected. I suppose I also wondered if the tape on the double end bag was to affect the motion at all. Mine sometimes gets this spastic up and down reverberation if you tag it a little too high or low that I have not necessarily had with previous bags. Could be the thickness of the bunjee or the unusual height of the ceiling......but it's not a big deal. Hell, it's a double end bag.....it should be schizophrenic.

I do think I will apply some tape for the protection of my gloves or knuckles (for those random outbursts without gloves in passing. I will be interested to see if it affects the motion at all if I apply a thickish layer around the bujee on both connections.
