Where to hang heavy bag

In the past I've put an eye bolt into a rafter, but right now mine hangs from the limb of a huge Live Oak in the yard.

Tarp it when not in use... Is it canvas, leather, or synthetic leather?

Ive used the same system twice now in my basement for my bag. Its a quick fix but unreliable. So far ive snapped two eye bolts in half from the stress.

Best bet is to get a floor/ceiling joist hanger with a spring.

I only hang it when it when I use it. It stays in the utility room otherwise.

Never had a problem with one snapping. Try a better grade bolt from a hardware store if you haven't already. No Wal Mart stuff.

I put a 4x6 between two ceiling studs, then put the I bolt through about the middle of the 4x6. This offloads a lot of the side to side stress of hitting the bag, which will prevent the problems of breaking the 2x4 or the I bolt that other people have had. I can post some pics if people are interested. I have done this in my house and a few of my friends, and they have held up for years with no issues.
