When to train w/o gloves or wrist wraps

I'm taking a Krav Maga class. Not MMA, I know. But no one in my class wears gloves or wrist wraps for any focus mitt or block pad training. Maybe this is because the pads are softer than a bag or maybe because they aren't very strong. But having to punch a firm block on the ground left my hands aching the next day. (Also, maybe because I'm not used to punching or b/c I have carpal tunnel).

Question to you guys:

What exercises do you not wear gloves for? And why?

Will I be fine w/o wrist wraps or gloves for focus mitts and punching blocks?

After doing Kung Fu without gloves or wraps for years I don't hit the bag/pads or anything without wrapping my hands. I get really bad pain if I don't (used to forget my wraps at home sometimes) so now I carry a ton of extra pairs in my bag.

You should never hit the bag or focus mits without wraps and gloves.

Thats just stupid, then again, youre taking Krav Maga.

1. I don't wear gloves when I shadow box, skip, hit the double end bag or practice with the speed ball. Reason: They get in the way and add unneccessary weight (plus its not like I will injure myself without extra wrist/knuckle protection for those exercises).

2. No. You will eventually screw up a strike or two which will muck up your wrist/knuckles/arm. Get gloves.

From my experience with Krav Maga, we wore hand-wraps for thai-boxing days and none for Krav Maga Days.

It is annoying to work on weapons defense and judo styled throws with hand wraps. When we did punching we would not go as hard as the thai-boxing days.

There is an intensive debate on this subject in the striking sub-forum. I think you would fit in with the “clueless douche bags”.
