Split seam or closed seam shorts?

Just reading a bunch of reviews, trying to figure out which fight shorts I want to buy and was hoping for some input from you guys.

With the all the stretchy type material that goes into these types of shorts is a closed seam design adequate for training? I mean i'm just starting out so it's not like i'm throwing kicks at peoples heads or anything (i'm so unflexible right now i don't think i could throw anything higher then someone's waist).

I must admit just from an aesthetic standpoint i prefer the closed seam so if they'd work i'd buy them but if the open seams really do make that big of a difference when grappling and stuff then i'd go with those. If i do go with open seam i'm debating between the sprawl vflex or saving $10 and going with ssf...couldn't find anyone saying anything bad about the sprawls though so it's a tough choice.

EDIT: whoops....spent so much time reading reviews in the review subforum that i posted this in the wrong place...could a mod move this to teh discussion forum, thanks.

I prefer the split seam. Not a big fan of stretchy material. Never had a problem with the split seam as it works great for kicking/sprawling.

All I can tell you about are the SPRAWLS. I have both the closed seem and open seems. I have had no problems with either when it comes to kicking or guard work. I like the closed better just because I can sport them around the gym or wherever. If you have tree trunks for legs then I would go with the open seem though.

Cool...that was the kind of response i was hoping for. Yeah the ability to wear them elsewhere without looking "funny" is the reason i like the CS. My thighs are bigger then average i guess for a guy my height (5'6") but far from Ishida level tree trunks.

the only thing that sucks is that the closed seam don't come in the dark green color...only open seam.

i like the split seams.. i wear underarmor compression shorts underneath.. and you cant even tell that they have split seams... unless someone gets close and just starts staring at your shorts... but no one has ever said anything to me...

LOL....i'm much to impatient for that...i just went ahead and ordered some CS in black.

Maybe for my second pair i'll get an open seam and in that case it'll definately be the green.

.....unless they come out with some sort of orange and black combo (i went to oregon state university...go beavs).

There is some truth to this. However, the shorts I've got fit my legs pretty well. I'm not Randleman or anything, but I have pretty big quads. The BFW Team shorts are closed seam and work fine for high kicks, takedowns, whatever. I've never had a problem with snagging myself on the material. The legs and hips are roomy basically. I've got their Pro Model too, which is split seam. It also works really well. The split seams aren't needed per say, but they don't hurt. I found the older Sprawls were too tight in the hip and upper quad.

I normally prefer split seam's but found a pair of closed that I really like (gameness).
