I heard Brasilia. What do you think?

I do have friends in certain places, and some who have friends in Rio that they trust. But assuming the worst, what would the best place to go to be considering safty and level of BJJ training? Im a heavyweigtht if it would make a difference.

Im hoping to camp for a month, or two, and soon!

I have blackbelts to roll with but id like to experience the Brazilian competitiveness and train two to three times a day with students who are good.

Thanks in advance!
I wouldnt worry about where is the safest place. Brazil isnt the gaza strip. If you talk to seasoned travelers, not people who stay in 5 star resorts, but real travelers. They will tell you they have never felt more unsafe than the time they spent in Detroit/Chicago/LA/NY etc. If you dont flash your money around and use your head you will be fine almost anywhere.

From what I have read, Brasilia is the worst place to visit in Brazil because it was built as a center for business. I have heard it doesnt have the same feel as the rest of Brazil and that it is a business city without the culture of the rest of Brazil.

Look into Buzios and Florianopolis. Both are on the beach, Buzios is tropical weather, Floripa isnt. Both have good jiu jitsu schools. Floripa has a BTT affiliate where Thiago Tavares trains out of. I would also look into Rio. Stu who posts here is there right now.

Safety in Brazil is blown way out of proportion. There are hundreds of American girls who go to Rio by themselfs every week and only 3 or 4 of them will die

Yeah it seems that Brasilia is percieved as boring being the capital. My brazilian friends ( Jiu Jitsu friends ) are there so it seems to be the logical choice although id love to go to other place.

Any info/experinces on Brasilia would be helpful.

What would a foriegner look like, speaking no Portaguese wanting to train at academies in Rio or Floripa?

I understand that English is common in Floripa. But I keep wondering what id look like trying to train with them while the language of instruction is Portaguese!

If I knew id find Americans/Canadians/British people, or even people from Abu Dhabi ( where I have many friends ) training with me in Rio or Floripa, it would be much more encouraging. I dont know that and the next Buzios camp isnt any time soon nor is any camp that I know of.

In sao paulo for a week training just bjj-- gonna check out the bad boy store

i will write up on what I think of rio and sao paulo

never had any trouble in either city-- but its not like I went into the known bad parts... I dress how I normally do back home, I just take as much money as I will need, and when Im out at night going to a club I put my watch in my pocket until I enter the club.... not had anyone approach me

if you like a big city with loads of shops, restruants and night clubs--go to sao paulo

if you like the beach come to rio-- rio is more beautiful-- i live 2 blocks 2 mins walk from the beach and i enjoy it cos I can, run along the beach and use the pull up/ dips bars

where ever you go, your gonna be able to grapple with a tone of black belts and higher levels...... They will welcome you...... I meet a lot of people tht can can speak some english and I speak portuguese with them.....you will find yourself going out to clubs/parties and BBQ with your team mates.... just learn some basic portuguese to help you get by...like ordering food/ asking where the bathroom is

Thx for the info Stu. Do you go out to the bars with people from your team often? I was in Spain and it was very hard for me to make friends with Spanish people while I was there. It seems you and Dyn both haven't had that problem.

well after about 3-4 weeks of training you will pretty much know everyone in the academy.....It depends on how much portuguese you know and if they speak a little english

the first week I went out to a bar alone-- and just started talking to a bunch of girls lol but after a few weeks I made friends with people at the academy and I started tio go out with them
