Hey Stu, any good tips you can pass along for learning Portugese? Any books, online resources programs or anything like that? Im going to be taking a Portugese class next semester, it is only 3x week for 50 minutes, so I want to get a leg up and start studying some Portugese on my own as well. Any advice?

IMO -- Just try and do something which involves studying portuguese everyday..... i.e reading, writing or even watching a tv programme thats in portuguese, for your listening skills......I dont recomend taking long breaks off like a few weeks, as when you come back to it, you realise you have forgotten alot of the basic words....

but what your doing looks good x3 a week

Some good advice-- is to pay attention and detail to pronouncation, and to keep practising the words, till you can say it like a native

awesome thread dynasty, i have been following it over the past couple days and reading every post, and have been thoroughly entertained. you are truly lucky to have such an experience, and im glad to see it happen to someone who shows as much dedication to this sport as you do. it made me look up the national geographic article that john wrote, and i thought it was pretty well written and cool to see that he wrote a lot about interacting with you.

just a quick question as far as the bjj, how large of a gap would you say, from your experience, is the skill level from say a blue belt in the US to the blue belts in brasil. do people in brasil like/dislike american jiujitsu fighters more or less?
