Hey Dyn, glad to see you're see updating this thread. It rocks dude.
If all goes to plan I'm hoping to go to Thailand then Brasil in one long succession. So it may possibly be a year long adventure. Thailand trip is pretty much sorted. There are many Thai camps out there that can accommodate pretty much your every need, and I mean EVERY need.
At the beginning of the thread you said someone could live on 10 grand for an entire year in Brasil. Now that you've been there for a while and have done it all. What's your honest opinion now on how much someone could realistically live on whilst out there? What would you personally recommend?
I stayed with a host family in Salvador and it cost me $110 a week through a port language school, that was in 2k6. Now it's $160 a week. So prices are going up at a quick rate, so I want to get out there asap.
Have you just been staying in those flats / hotels? I stayed in one in Copa in Rio and it was quite expensive. About R$400 a week, which isn't much when converted to £, but that's still expensive in brasilian terms.
I'll probably stay with host families again initially anyhow. safest bet when you're in a new city. Well, for me it was. But those flats are great.
I'm definitely going to Rio again, I want to check out Curitiba then finally Salvador. There's a good chance that'll change when I'm there no doubt.
So, other than that. What mistakes have you made that us newbies can try and avoid?
