i'm going to re-read the thread and see if you discussed how you went about planning the original trip and any details before I ask any further questions.

Thanks again Dyn.

i know english teachers wont become rich in brasil.... but at least it will be enough to live off and give u some flexibility in ur working hours so u can go and train

Do you know if there are any MMA schools in Florionopolis? I think there is a Gracie Barra there, but not sure if it is just BJJ or not. I would like to go to Brazil someday and Florionopolis sounded awsome but didnt know of any camps located there. I just wish Curitiba was on the beach like Rio, then id have the best of both worlds.

Housing prices in Florionopolis were much cheaper than i expected. Seemed like you could buy a awsome condo right by the beach for a couple hundered grand.

i know thiago tavares trains out of floripa..and floripa is amazing man, if i could live in any beach city here in brasil, for sure it would be there..beautiful girls, good food..beaches are great..one of the safer places to live here in brasil as well

when i was there i went to this big ass salt water lake, thats super warm..i highly recommend floripa..

the name of the gym that thiago trains at i think is murilo rupp jiu jitsu...when i get some free time ill check it out for you..

as for housing yeah i guess its cheap if you compare it to beach cities in the us...but some of the most expensive houses in the world are in floripa..depends what part of the city you live in

Dyn, from what I gathered you said that a lot of your trip planning had to do with people you already knew there from orkut and such that hooked you up with stuff. How vital would you say that knowing somebody down there already is? Is it essential?

thats a hard quustion to answer...i was very worried before i came here..and wanted to have everything in place..im not the type of person who can just say ok im going to another country, and not know what im going to do when i get there..but after the girl i met left..thats pretty much exactly what happened..i was on my own, and that was probably the best part of this whole experience, was learning if i really needed to i could get by on my own, and i did...knowing very little portuguese at the time

i didnt have anyone to compare this type of experience with before i left..and it was very frustrating, ..i was searching for people who had been to brasil, to try and understand what to expect, but unfortunately i didnt have that..

i think for any of you guys who are truly wanting to come to curitiba and train, everything is all laid out for you..not to be cocky or anything but you guys are lucky to have an experience, to look at and know what to expect, you know?..

to be honest you could get by here easily, the only problem is the language barrier..but even that isnt a problem..i have a roomate who is here from japan, spoke no port when he got here and still doesnt speak that much..the kid was doing everything on his own..he lived in sao jose dos pinhais which is like an hour away from here..and took the bus here everyday to centro, and then walked to the gym..if he can do all that im convinced anyone who speaks english could get by much easier...the majority of people dont speak english, but for example, my ex was here not to long ago..she was here for a week, and when i went to the gym she would go to the mall, and get food, or see a movie..and i remember one time she told me she went to subway and the guy noticed she didnt speak portuguese..he spoke a lil english and helped her out...if people dont speak english the majority of people will notice and do everything in there power to help you

the only thing that i have to admit truly sucks, is if your not from this city, you cant rent an apartment..i remember i tried when i got here, and they wanted me to sign like a 1 year lease, and have x amount of money in the bank..so the only real option was a flat.which while expensive, everything was taken care of for me...

now that i made friends my whole life has become 10 times easier..like for example the apt im in now i pay like 230 dollars a month in rent...i have 2 roommates, but the place is 3 blocks away from the gym, and i have everything you could need.

i think in may im gonna be moving out of here and into my friends apt, alone,, hes leaving to teach at the new academy in huntington beach cali, so im gonna take his place..i dont own anything here in brasil, as far as furitnure or anything, so hes gonna sell me everything dirt cheap, and ill basically be moving into a fully furnished one bedroom apt sometime in may..looking forward to that

sorry to get off on a tangent there..sometimes i start typing and forget what i was talking about in the first place, haha

those are always the best posts.

you had to have a plan all laid out for your parents. i need to have a plan laid out IN FULL if I'm ever going to convince my fiance to let me attempt this.

I wouldnt say its essential - Just learn some basic portuguese-- if u dont learn portuguese you will really miss out on interacting/ making friends.....

If you can email the academy u want to train at and let them know ur comming--maybe they can help with airport pickup---- get u a room

If not find a hostel-they are cheap for a week or 2 while you look for better accomadation

p.s lolI wud get an Orkut account also--as this let me contact ppl i had never met b4 i went to brasil- and i can keep in touch with them
